with ringtones from my experience you can get 5$ ecpc one day, the next it's .09$ ecpc... literally
and you cannot predict

Only if you are not pushing enough traffic to be statisticically relevant.

If you push a relatively small amount of traffic and see those kinds of swings there is something wrong. If you send 500 clicks of decent traffic, you will not see yourself getting 100 leads 1 day and 2 the next.

Nah I don't use forwarding domains at this time.
Yea I guess it's all about luck with the redirecting affiliate links..sometimes they disable the ad, sometimes they don't.. I'm trying frames now..

They will eventually catch that. it may work for a good long while, but ultimately the seem to find it out. And you end up with the same rejections due to not matching the url and all that.

The thing about mikes results is he has learned one of the processes of aff and has made it his own. that is why he will be successful, if you just copy what someone else has done most of your stuff will fail. You will also have to realize that most of what you try will not work!

This is some excellent advice. Too many people want a blueprint to copy what someone else has done and I have never seen that work. You have to make it your own and actually understand it. Only when you truly understand what you are doing and how to improve on it, will you make it really work.

You don't need to spend $700 on an offer or offers to see if they work. You should be able to cut your losses long before that. As Chris noted most things fail. When you find something that works you have to exploit, but the first 5 things you try or 10 things, or 20 things might not work. I have tried to help others get started and this is probably the biggest obstacle. They realize it is not as easy as it sounds.

If a campaign isn't working you will know about it quickly. Fail fast so you spend too much money.

Update, and some things I've learned...

Okay, so my first real campaign is doing well. You can see the screenshot below. Remember that today is the 4th, and it's early, so if you're looking at this wondering why there it is $0, well now you know.

Total cost so far in advertising has been right around $500. So, I'm running just under a 2:1 ratio (spend $1 make $2). I'm shooting for 4:1, but I'll be happy with a 3:1 ratio.

At least $100 of that $500 was just thrown down the drain. I had 2 days where I let Google run my ads on the content network. Fuckin' stupid. Didn't get a single conversion from over 400 content network clicks.

I think that LookSmart may have had some conversions, but at the time I did not have any tracking set for it. Also dumb. Now I have about 12 different creatives set up to track different things.

Also, I had my bids set too high the other day, I've decreased them some. My landing page is converting between 8 - 10%. I was shooting for a 5% conversion, so that's good. I still feel it could be better, so this weekend I'm going to tweak it a bit.

I'm going to spend some time working on good old fashioned SEO to get some organic traffic. That'll will help pull the ad costs down and increase net revenue.

Started 3 more campaigns yesterday / last night. I'll report back on those. Hopefully, they're winners also.

So there you go. The adventures of a wannabe affiliate marketer.

nice work Mike, you should change your signature though, to i made over $970 in 4 days ;). Keep up the good work, in my opinion i think doubling your money on the campaign youre running is great, and if anything you should see if giving up some of your margin (i.e. paying more for clicks) makes you more profit overall since youll be exposed to more traffic at the higher cost. Just a suggestion, $100 a day in profit isnt bad.

LOL!! Yeah, but $1000 is just such a nice round number!

I've thought about paying a little more for the clicks, but haven't tried it yet because the difference in average position is pretty minimal unless I double what I'm paying. I'm a little reluctant to double it :D

I did see some traffic from MySpace, and I haven't advertised on there, but I think it may have been from a link I dropped on Jenna Jameson's profile. Not sure though. Going to experiment with celebrity comment blocks this weekend.

Anybody know of any big celebrities MySpace accounts? Post link here, we can spam 'em together! J/K
