Also next year, you’ll be able to get a look at our Yahoo! Search Marketing Desktop tool, an offline tool designed to help sophisticated search advertisers create and manage large campaigns. The tool will help you complete search advertising tasks easier and more quickly. If you’re interested in it now, please contact your account representative or sign up to inquire about our beta program.

I've been beta testing the software for a few months now - It still has a long way to go, but I had a conference call with a few Yahoo reps, developers, and product managers, so hopefully all of the suggestions (including such basics as copy and paste...) will be incorporated into the next release. There have already been improvements in the latest beta, which is a good sign, but it's still not as useful/efficient as AdWords desktop. MSN has to start improving their adCenter Desktop tool, though, since in a year or so adCenter will be running the ads at Yahoo.

Finally.... so far ive been doing everything in AWE, exporting, convert, and uploading to YSM. very time consuming but it works well.

Is it even worth Yahoo's time to keep working on this, since it looks like YSM will be going away in favor of (in my opinion, the shittier) Microsoft adCenter?

They have that many millions of dollars and they never prioritized this. Makes you wonder what they COULD have done had they google'd the word "excellence".

^

That went into revamping its logo. sorry, that's much more important.
And of course, all of the time spend on devising the new email signature for account reps could have been used to put copy/paste functionality and bulksheet importing into the desktop tool already...

Forgot to mention another issue with Yahoo Desktop - It takes forever to download new accounts / re-download the existing account, even if the account is relatively small. You can easily wait 5-10 minutes to download the latest version of a 200 keyword account - Unlike Google, it isn't very good at quickly downloading account changes only.

Do you know how its CPU usage is? The MSN desktop takes up such a massive amount. I practically have to shut down everything on my computer, and contact Con Edison to shut down everything in the state, for the MSN to run at a decent speed.

MSN on my system regularly piles between 0 and 15% CPU usage, with 200MB memory usage, just sitting idle. AdWords Editor doesn't use much at all in terms of CPU, and uses 51MB memory, and Yahoo does next to nothing normally, but while downloading an account uses around 5-10% consistantly and takes up 194MB memory. That's on a Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53 Ghz.

Oh really? Ok thank you for that very diligent and thorough information

Actually, the account downloads don't take too long if you don't have an old campaign with thousands of keywords, and a 39MB bulksheet... Didn't catch that old campaign in the account I was doing the downloading on. The 39 MB account still took 10 minutes to download and import, on a connection where I get 15Mbps down on average.
