Hi everyone,

I am very new to i/m. I started my first blog about 2 or 3 months ago and I learned how to do keyword research and write articles. Now, that i have established over 50 articles, I am ready to take the next step in seo. I need to get people to the site to view the articles. So, i have to create back links. My blog is about art and specifically fine art. I have a deviant art page, facebook and twitter. I have been writing some free tutorials on deviantart to gain visitors but they view the free tutorials and it does not convert to my site well. Additionally, I can market to specific niches. For example, If i do a tutorial on drawing a celebrity, I can market to a celebrity fan site.

In this art market, what is the best way to go about creating back links. I am very new but dedicated so please bare with me. Do you recommend a link bomb to get started? I just want to stay consistent and the people who view the site come back often. Thanks

hello jdubtrey, the fastest way to get backlinks to your articles is to share them to social media sites, and social bookmarking sites. What I do is as soon as I write a new article I instantly share it to twitter, facebook, facebook, likes, stumble upon, delicious, blogger.
another great way is to get mini blogs like blogger and typepad to post the link to your article. There is a lso a website called "social monkee" you can get 25 free unique backlinks there. Also post your article link to websites like "tutorialized" and "a1-webmarks" I have more techniques but you have to message me

I guess the question would be how do i gain more twitter followers. Im using the pound signs but im still not gaining traffic. Im getting people to retweet links but not the people with a huge audience. I have a facebook but it only has 150 likes. I post in groups and on pages but the people who have the most traffic delete the posts etc etc.

Please take a look at my site and give me some critiques and help me with direction. Thanks. (THIS IS OPEN FOR ANYONE)

signed up but it seems like its random traffic and not targeted traffic. Have you found it useful and are people looking through your articles or just landing on your page?

if you want retweets, you can get them this way. retweet enough quality tweets to enough people and you will begin to see some traffic. You can increase your followers there as well.

Weird; I was just going to come here and tell you that I saw you put your site up there but that you shouldn't bother because the traffic is really untargeted, or in other words, useless. Everyone's just there to get points. The only real way you're going to get any use out of that website feature is if your website has something REALLY COOL that would interest a lot of people. Most people on the site aren't interested in drawing, or so I would assume. The only thing that's made me stay on a page beyond the wait time so far was a video about some guy's secret in AM. I knew it was going to be BS, but I just wanted to see what he had to say.

Apparently everything we do now - SEO, PPC, media buys - is all outdated and useless!

Anyway, yeah, just stick to tweets and retweets.

Lol thanks for taking the time to verify everything and give me the input. I am really just looking for ways to gain traffic. It doesn't have to be through twitter. I am very new to i/m and im reading that most of the traffic is going to come from building back links.
I tried doing this through forum posting and signatures but I do not get much of a return. I also tried contacting several sites via email to add an article but I never get a reply. I am ignorant to the ways to build links without paying someone.
So i am link building on my own for a blog about art. What are some techniques I can use to gain traffic? I guess that's my real question :)

Let me give an overview...

500-600 ppl a day via keywords.
150 likes on facebook.
50 twitter friends.
A few article submissions= 10 views a day
Some twitter and facebook seo= 40 ppl a day
forum posting= 25 ppl a day

Not too much going on.

For a site like yours, I'd consider finding forums and things of that nature about drawing/anime and sharing your site there. If any of your guides are really good, they may end up getting shared or referenced by others.

That is what I was attempting to do that way i could gain traffic from a variety of sources. I just need to keep at it i guess :) Thank you.

im reading that most of the traffic is going to come from building back links.

this is wrong, but i can understand how you came to this conclusion. links are, more or less, trust indicators in the eyes of the search engines. the more you have, the more likely the search engines will give you a boost in the serps for your targeted keywords.

the traffic will come from ranking highly for your target keywords & having people click through to your site from the serps, granted people even search the keywords you're targeting.

that being said, your website is all over the place & poorly optimized. not to mention, you have no discernible monetization method in place.

foremost, what're you trying to rank for? it's clear your site is a hub for people looking how to draw various things, but what's the main keyword you're working on? from the looks of it, i'd say it's how to draw. and, while that keyword gets 165K exact searches/month, it's highly competitive & probably not a niche you should try to tackle considering you're new to IM.

you have, however, done a decent job at optimizing the individual articles you've written for their respective keywords.

so, this is what i'd do if i were you:

1) take all the keywords you've targeted with your articles, run 'em through the google keyword tool (make sure you check "exact" and not "broad")
2) pick out the top 5 keywords by # of searches & write 'em down
3) buy social bookmarks for your top 2 keywords pointed at the URLs of the articles you wrote for them (i'd suggest the following: http://www.wickedfire.com/links-seo/144230-stevejobs-bookmarking-we-dont-leave-foot-prints.html) this will run you $44, but is worth it
4) for the additional 3 keywords, you can start building backlinks manually. the easiest way to find places to drop a link is through doing some competitive research on websites in affiliate dominated niches (think e cigs, hcg diet, & the like) using sites like Open Site Explorer (or any website that gives you a snapshot of the link profile for those sites)
5) when you've got those link profiles, go through 'em 1 by 1. you'll find that many of the links that have been dropped are in the form of profile or comment spam which makes things easier for you. each site you find that has a shit ton of spam comments, go to the comment box, put your name as your target keyword, type in gibberish for the gmail & put the article you wrote for the respective keyword in the URL place

that should be a nice start. if you have any questions, just ask. either i or someone equally or more knowledgeable can chime in & help

right now you should be thinking about ranking for relatively high volume keywords, or at least keywords that generate you traffic you're happy with. & the quickest way to do this is via social bookmarks and sitewide or links within blogs on high PR blog networks, both of which are offered here on wickedfire.

once you begin to rank & are happy with the traffic that's coming in, you can begin to ramp up the more "whitehat" link building efforts, i.e contacting site owners with content similar to yours offering to write a guest post.

note: i haven't even discussed a way for you to actually monetize. i will later.

 THANK YOU! I really appreciate this. This gives me a few ideas and points me into the correct direction. Yes, I was trying to rank for How To Draw but i was also just finding a bunch of keywords like "how to draw this or how to draw that" and bolding the entire keyword instead of just bolding "how to draw". I also see now that it has 41,800,000 searches in googles search engine using quotes. I thought competition was based on "low or high" in adwords and not through putting the term in quotes through the search engine. I started watching some tutorials via youtube but i see most people use terms that have only "50,000" searches in google using quotes. It seems like all my keywords are in the millions. What is a good number to start to rank for and how many exact searches is a good number for that keyword? For example, it seems like 50,000 searches in google is low competition and the keyword should produce about 100 searches a day.

Is it better to have one keyword like "how to draw people" and then list articles like "how to draw people: eyes" "how to draw people: hair" than having a whole bunch of keywords like "how to draw eyes", "how to draw hair". I think this is where i was making a mistake.

Finally, there are some great drawing tutorials on youtube but have not posted any on my site because Im not sure how to gain traffic with videos. I assume that I would still have to write an article that is keyword rich than post the video from a third party site but Im thinking it might not be a good idea because I will be sending my traffic to youtube and I should focus on articles because that is what separates me (seo for seaches and not seo through video)

Monetizing - i was going to sell art books and art supplies but i am very interested in your response.

THANK YOU AGAIN!

At the end of every article you write, simply include a link to a Clickbank ebook on the topic. For example, for your "how to draw sasuke" article, include a link to an offer like this. Keep every offer relevant to the article.

Hi everyone,

It has been a month or two since i started this post. I worked on a few things. I added more articles, tutorials and inspiration. In each article I added art supplies that would be used in the tutorial and I added related art books to a few tutorials. I changed the navigation. I also added a section in the navigation where artist can buy supplies and art books through amazon. I also added articles to social bookmarking sites and paid for stevejobs bookmarking. I also have a better understanding of how to write articles that are keyword rich and rank for them.

I want to add a gallery where people can upload their artwork like this site Logospire - Logo inspiration gallery Do i use plugins to create a member area and if so which? Also, logospires member area does not lead to the wordpress dashboard (like when you try to is you switch a members rights to author or contributor etc) Thats why i am a little confused on how to do this.

Lastly, and this is open to anyone, could you give me some advice on how to make my site more profitable or point out any mistakes or issues you see. Thanks again.

I realized i did not plug my site for review...

Your site doesn't really make me want to click on anything. Its boring, and plain. It doesn't look like a tutorial site. You need a better design. A custom one if you have the time for it, and you could really use more traffic. Along with the custom design I recommend getting better ad placement and designing the theme in a way where your content looks more appealing.

What you could do is look at flippa for tutorial sites that are actually making money and try to imitate then innovate.

**Update***

I switched a few things on the site and added a few things. First, I changed the layout. I am currently using an adsense ready website. Im sure everyone here has heard of the dosh dosh theme. It is not appealing but my adsense revenue has increased so i am not complaining. I am continuing to write articles and started to do some social bookmarking and other link building strategies. I have seen an increase in traffic from this and especially from google images.

I am starting to have an understanding of how to increase traffic but the next step is to make money from the traffic. I signed up with commission junction and amazon. I implemented a materials list through affiliate products that people will need inside ever tutorial and created a store that has drawing books/supplies for sale. I am thinking about have a few books listed under the navigation on the main page but what i need help with is making money from affiliate marketing and how monetize my blog. I have been following squidoos layout structure but I am not converting sales so i need advice.

Thanks

Hey man, you need to change the banner, it currently takes the whole screen

Edit: if you already read this, my apologies, it was a client side mistake on my side

Good job. It is a challenge to start writing and you are now on your way.

You are already doing something interesting, you are on social media. Reminds me of some time ago. I had a friend selling reptiles and he was doing what was necessary in the right places that have reptiles! People was buying his reptiles.

One thing that you can do is to consider the places that you have seen fine art, and look at what they have been doing. How did you find them?

Do you do art or do you just do writing about it? If you do art, you have a lot of options out there.

Do some searches that people who would look at art do. I say this because if you started writing about this topic, you must have done so out of interest.

If so, then go through, you might find sites where you can write for them as a guest writer. Depending on your interest level in the topic, you might find some better qualified traffic that converts better.

Best of luck!
