Well, my wife and I decided on "no gifts except for the little kids" a few years back.

Made us wildly unpopular for a year.

But after that, all of the family got into it and now we're spending christmas as a very relaxed quality time with the family. Good food, good drinks, maybe even a joint or two are shared and christmas spirit settles in.

And ya can't beat watching stressed out shoppers before christmas when you're just relaxing with friends at a café, not having to worry about presents.
