dude, black ice is a bitch. Back in winter 2009 I totally lost control of my vehicle because of black ice, went completely off-road and hit the fence, and the roads were in better conditions than what you see in that video. Thank god it was late at night so there was no one else on the road or it could have been really bad.
fwiw - I don't consider myself an expert at winter driving. I use an ex-rally driver/ Bridgestone Winter Driving Instructor I know to fact check my articles on that specialty.
Having said that I am Very experienced in the snow and this wasn't black ice. As soon as the SUV driver put the driver side tires into the slush the effect is one of "being sucked into it". I almost wrecked a work van in a very similar way when I was a teen -- I remember it like it was a few seconds ago. If you watch the driver change lanes in the start you'll see the SUV start to lose control when he crosses over the slush.
Was it his own fault ? Every accident you are involved in is totally your own fault No matter the circumstance. Years ago a racing instructor said "if you're driving down the back straight all alone on a sunny day and a bolt of lightning comes out of the blue sky and hits your car; it's your fault. Why? You were driving where the lightning was about to be." It took me years to own this bit of driving philosophy but its true.
Oh and yeah I’ve wrecked cars. On the race track and when I was a kid on the street. And Yes, I consider them all my own fault.
On average 100 American's are killed in car crashes Every Single Day. Its staggering. Still they hand out licenses to anyone that can turn the key.

Raw as fuck. Pretty incredible how much power those giant ass semi trucks get being able to just completely disintegrate a vehicle like that.
As for the morality of posting this and passing it around, it at least means those people didn't die in vain as it will probably create thousands of more cautious drivers and save lives.

Looks like debris to me from the back of the truck, guys body would be in the wreckage going in direction of the semi most likely, not perpendicular to impact.
LOL, yeah, because a seat belt would have totally saved the guy's life.
If anything, this video highlights the need for rail guards on highways. This shit would not have gone down like this if there was a center rail guard.
I suspect his driving skills were very average. The roads were wet and slushy. He was going too fast for road conditions, started to slide, and that was it. Usually nothing bad happens ,sometimes it does. At least he did not cross over and kill some other innocent family.
That seems totally illogical to me. How is it your fault when it's totally unpredictable and therefore unavoidable? Are you supposed to expect a lightning bolt from clear blue sky? The dude's insane or trolling you.

Like i said it took me years to own this. It's really a mindset. Look at like this - your're late for work. There are 4 cars blocking the road, 2 sets of two and they are staggered. You see you have no place to pass them but: you go in there anyway and box youself in... hoping to force the issue and get them to speed up or move over. Now if one of those dickheads doesn't see you and changes lanes into you; you crash because you boxed yourself in -- it was predictable that you might be hit. See what I'm sayin?
Same thing with that guy in the suv... it was predicable that if he put his tires into the slush he might lose control.
And Yes It Is The Ideal - not truly attainable but something that you attempt to accomplish -- especially if you race cars you have to crash. You have to.
But do yourself a favor; next time you strap the car to your ass-- take a moment and think about that. That if you have an accident No matter the reason It Is Entirely Your Own Fault.
One scenario of many that discredits that belief. A traffic jam on Sydney's F3 freeway blocking a bridge across a river at the bottom of a hill. All insurance companies and indeed traffic coppers always look to allocate blame in an accident. The blame can go either way.

^ This happened to me several years ago. I was driving on a country highway and had to stop because the car in front of me was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear so they could turn left onto another road. As I was sitting there, I got smoked from behind by a guy that was doing at least 30-40 mph. Turns out the guy had just gotten off his night shift and fell asleep as the wheel.
