Workouts

LOL! You're obviously not married to the right woman if that's your belief. OR you're one of those "Betas" that the young guys on this forum like to talk about so much. So insecure in themselves that they can't accept that others can push them.

My wife is incredibly competitive, and by challenging her, she challenges me.

So, don't be a dick. You don't know me, or my wife. :action-smiley-052:

I've spent 10 years at the gym (thousands of hours), watched multiple bodybuilding DVDs, read multiple books, wrote articles for the most popular lifting sources on the net, and am in better shape than you......I have never seen a bodybuilder motivated in the gym by his wife.

The fact that you'd randomly assert someone that displays knowledge as a "beta" just shows your insecurity. If your wife says "C'mon baby!" and gets you that extra 2 reps...you're a pussy because you can't do that for yourself.

It's not a wonder that it's taken you decades to realize that you should be in shape.

My knees are definitely a weak spot for me. Especially my left knee for some reason. Basically, I've found that I can still do squats, hammer leg curls, leg extensions, leg presses, etc, BUT I have to listen to my body and if it starts to hurt in an unnatural way, I take the weight down or move to another exercise.

I've found that if I maintain proper form, even in squats, I can push some serious iron. The machine squats hurt my knees, so I don't use the machine. But good old fashioned barbell with plates on either side doesn't - when I perform the movement correctly. Really, anything with free weights, done correctly doesn't hurt - okay, doesn't hurt in a bad way, it all HURTS. :)

Funny thing, I do have a treadmill desk, but it's in the basement and my treadmill is upstairs... probably should put to two in the same room.

Today, taking some of the advice above, I made sure to do compound exercises to exhaustion.

My workout today (in order):

20 mins on the treadmill.

2 sets of 10 - incline bench at 95#, then 6 reps at 95#
2 sets of 10 - incline at 65#, then 8 reps at 65#
2 sets of 10 - close grip lat pulls at 90#, then 7 reps at 80#
6 reps squat at 225# - I should have just dropped the weight and done more. My form was fine, but since I don't have the stabilizer muscles built up I was too wobbly to be safe. Next time I'll do sets at 175#
3 sets of 10 upright rows 40# (why does that seem so light?) - the last two of set 3 were barely countable, but I got them most of the way

I did the upright rows last today. The other day I did them first at a higher weight and it kind of wrecked the rest of my workout because my muscles were so fatigued after the rows. oops.

Hey, it may not be the power workout that some of you are doing, but it got my heart pumping and my muscles burning. So it felt great!

I actually look forward to the gym. My wife and I go together and motivate each other. Honestly, if it weren't for her doing upright rows across from me, I wouldn't have finished that last set. We were both wrecked, but I could see it in here eyes that she wasn't quitting on the last two, so neither was I.

This looks like a pretty good work-out.
Just keep on doing it for at least 3 months.
No point going into an Analysis paralysis.. Just be consistent brah
Fuck the machines for squat.
Just do proper barbell squat. Drop the weight on the Squat, though.
If the form is not near 99% perfect it can fuck up a lot of things..

Also with your weight I am sure you will have mobilty issues with you hip flexor and hammies, and squating heavy with improper form on stiff hips and hammies will be bad for a lot of things.

Do some hip flexibility exercise before the squat. Also stretch the Hamstrings (please google both).. This is very very important.
Watch Mehdi's squat videos and also Mark Rippetoes squat videos.. Again and Again. Bad knee and hips can be a serious demotivating factor.

I am a noob who went through fresh injuries.. lol

Add a stiff leg deadlift for the hamstring. light weight.

I also do weighted Push-ups. Really great for the core. Instead of increasing reps on push-up I keep adding plates

Suryanamaskar is also a very good stretching yoga exercise..

We've actually met several couple that motivate each other, and they're in very good shape. Amateur bodybuilder shape. So, apparently I'm not the only one.

Again, stop being a dick.

I'm not a gay webmaster IRL, I only play one on the forum. So I'm sorry if having a swinging dick hanging over my nose while I'm benching doesn't motivate me as much as my beautiful wife.

If swinging dicks motivate you... well that's your problem.

BTW, my kids and wife motivate me to make more money and be more successful. I must be a pussy in business too.

Dudebro, Wasn't Jay Cutler being spotted by his wife in "Jay Cutler All-Access"?

Jay Cutler > You (I'm assuming)

Just saying...

For Workouts -

Work each bodypart 2x a week max. The only thing that truly matters is that you increase the load...so if you bench 185x6 you're either looking for:

185x8-10
190x6
etc

So after your 10 years at this rate your now benching 700+ and squatting 900+? What a beast you are.

Now take your loser ass elsewhere! No one here likes you anyway and your obviously too Alpha even for all the tops and power bottoms that hang around these parts.

Jebeezus, one of these workout threads pop out every once in a while and a million opinions come out, all fucking different. I think as someone starting out, asking this question(or i should say listening to the any of the replies) in a forum is the wrong way to go about it.
Maybe one just needs a good gay gym buddy who is fit and loves you.

I've been taking a class at the gym called "Body Pump" twice per week. The other days I walk 2 miles in the morning 2 times a week on average. Been doing this around 7 weeks now.

I have also changed my diet... no fast food, little processed food. Mostly fruits, veggies, grilled meats (and only limited meat all together, the wife is vegetarian so she doesn't cook meat either).

I'm the only dude in the body pump class. There are about 30 other housewives who attend. I felt kinda gay at first (like when i joined this forum) but I don't GAF. And turns out I'm the hot commodity in that class. Haha it owns now. I started at 250 and am down to 235 and aiming for 210 long term goal to maintain.

The body pump class is a mix of aerobics weight lifting. I just can't get into lifting weights or pushing myself on the machines. The class works for me.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Bullshit fatty. Quit lying.

This thread is laughable... with all these fucking Jack LaLanes chiming in.

Anyways, I highly recommend... DDP Yoga

Check out the his YT channel and look at the changes Jake the Snake & The Bad Guy have made with it.

Good luck my hairy bear friend.

lol WF = reddit for middle aged people. Everybody takes every comment so seriously...post 4 paragraphs with good advice, throw a sarcastic sentence at the end....OUTRAGE because of the last sentence

Sup3rnova explained what he meant in a PM to me. I get it now. Just another comment that was lost in translation because of the limitations of print. You miss out on the nuances of body language and tone.

Iz all gud now.

Besides, doesn't WF love drama? Can't let a thread slide by without a little.

Oh! And I can't believe I didn't suggest this earlier:

DDPYOGA - The Most Complete Fitness System on the Planet!

Watch the video, this guy's legs were busted up worse than yours.

These threads crack me up. ALWAYS full of shitty advice. If you are pushing 400lbs, doing just about anything is going to work for the first several months.

Mike - I have a brother that was pushing 350lbs at 38 years old. He had a minor stroke that work him up. He lost 105lbs in 8 or 9 months (can't remember) by doing the following:

Stop eating crap. No need to define crap food, we all know what it is. He would allow himself to eat almost anything on Friday and Saturday night. That way, he had something to look forward to when he was craving.

Stop drinking crap. You can drink 2000 calories in just a few minutes. Stop all sugar sodas, juices and beer. Allow just a little on the two anything-goes meals a week.

Walk. My brother could barely walk one block without getting winded. He made it a requirement that he walked for 2 hours every day. 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. Since he couldn't walk far in the beginning he would walk a block and rest, walk, rest, walk rest. Each day, twice a day.

Eventually, he stared doing other exercises, but in the beginning all he could do was walk and eat a healthy diet.

After he lost the 105lbs he ran a 26 mile marathon. Ok, he walked most of it and he came in dead last, but he finished.

It's been nearly 4 years now and he weighs around 215. Regular exercise became a part of his life... like breathing.

You can do it. Take it slow. It's much more important to be consistent than to push yourself too hard. You can become injured or frustrated with the workout. Both of which will keep you from hitting your goal.

9 months. 105lbs.

Buy the book Starting Strength, read it, love it, follow the program. Ditch all the machines and use free weights only, unless you have injuries. Even then unless they are crippling injuries, you should still only use free weights.

That's a great book. However, it looks like Mr.Reap a toe, went all fancy on the language and it can become a very difficult read at some points.

Either way, the program is excelente my friend.

You misread my post, it's cool.

You don't need slow ass zero cardio weight lifting at a gym.

Just went and re-read it, not sure what I missed either time but cardio + weightlifting > strictly cardio. Muscle requires calories to exist, the more muscle he builds (from strength training), the more calories he'll burn just existing. More calories burned + less calories ingested = weight loss.

Speaking of weight loss, I need to get with you for some of your good links for dem beanz, dem berriez and dem mangos.
