Work on a Cruise Ship?

They generally do not hire Americans. 3rd world countries and Brits only. You also have to sign 6-12 months contracts with a 1/2 day off of work per week. That's right. All day, all night. Our waiter worked from 6am until 2am every day. The money is also awful.

Good luck bro

most cruise ship workers make somewhere around 3-400 a month. They work for Bahamian Cruise Ship Companies that lack minimum wage laws. Granted, all expenses are paid for them when they're out there, but it's still basically consensual slave labor.

haha I thought you meant work on your business while on a cruise ship...doing some shit work with long hours for almost no pay...? cool your on a cruise ship but cant do any of the real fun stuff...wouldn't you rather be enjoying the cruise?

I seriously considered this a couple years ago and still am if it wasn't for university. It really depends on what type of position you're looking for on a ship. Maid, servers, waiters etc = long hours = lowish pay to our standards in North America. However if you're qualified to be a DJ, kid/teen staff, or one of the cruise staff/hosts (run activities etc)... you can make upwards of 1600. Avg is more in the low 2xxx. Keep in mind you will have little to no expenses while living aboard the ship. These positions are typically always given to caucasians with english as their first language.

imo being a kid/teen staff worker wouldn't be that bad... you get to play around with kids all day and often partake in their activities. Also, when the ship is in port there is typically no activities for the kids on board so you get to go off the ship and do as you please.

I think they work on a cruise ship:

Son, this is an AFFILIATE MARKETING forum. People are here to learn how to BALL and make thousands per day, and you're here trying to get hooked up for a minimum wage job? You're definitely in the wrong forum.

last time i checked you were all a bunch of fakes.

well I will give you a usefull post here.

My sister worked on a cruise ship for a few years and had a good time. It all depends what you do. She played the harp in the high end restruant. She played for 2-4 hours a day 6 days a week got her own cabin paid 600 us a week plus tips. She got the perks of a first class passanger which ment no restriction on where she could go on the ship. So I would say unless you plan on playing he harp at the high end dinners where ppl pay to go eat then get ready to be a slave and earn less and have restrictions on where you can go on the ship.

On the plus side my parents got on a few cruises for free. I got on a few for 20$ a day. And when you tell the people your family of someone who works they tend to treat you a little better to.

My 2 cents

Well that is for deck people, I know they are paying really nice for all officers basically 2nd mate 1th mate and captain salary's are really good but anyone with those skills realize that its a job for dickheads. You have to wear the uniform anytime you show yourself outside the cabin in public and you have to have dinner with guests and shit. Most captains like their worn down jeans and laid back job on tanker where now people are allowed. They are constantly looking for crew in Scandinavia, so my gut feeling is that no company can grow that fast. That must mean that every single one of the crew member only does one turn before they realize what kind of shit job they ended up getting.

I worked a on tankers and dry ships there is no way in hell I would set my foot on cruise ship.

plus if you have an argument a group of men just throw you into the ocean?

My cousin is a first officer with BP on an oil tanker and clears £4000 per month tax free, and gets 6 months paid holiday per year. He doesnt particularly enjoy it, but its impossible NOT to save up loads of cash when you spend half your year in the middle of the ocean with food provided for free.

However to get qualified as an officer takes 3 years of training and study (where your salary is about £1k per month) after which you become a third officer on £2500 per month if I recall correctly. Second officer makes about £3000 first officer makes about £4000 and captain makes well over £5000 per month. (rough approximations)

Anything lower than officer tends to be given to filipinos, god knows what they earn, but it will not be much.

Apply for an european cruising company and ask to work on mediterranean or scandinavian routes, wages and fringe benefits are very high compared to other positions, even if you are not experienced. MCS (Italy/Suisse company) is always hiring mother tongue english workers.
