Will Smith talks about his affiliate marketing career

Exactly!

All the cynics here are missing what's in between the lines.

The 'lead into gold' thing is SYMBOLIC, the alchemists of the time didn't turn lead into gold, but they CONVINCED people they did - perception IS greater than reality. Maybe a few of them, through the hard work Smith goes on about, did find a way and went to the grave with it.

This whole industry and others are based on perception value because nothing is really worth anything unless you successfully convince people that they are. Diamonds, expensive clothing, [insert random superficial bullshit here], all exists because people have been psychologically conditioned to perceive them as valuable.

Learn to think for yourself, criticize only when you know you are within the boundaries of your own ignorance.

All Will Smith mumbo jumbo is bullshit there is not magical mystery to success.

Bullshit by Will Smith and other so called Life Gurus:

No you cant be a fucking "idea". Thats just non-sense
No Lead cant be turned into gold just bullshit
And 2+2 is fucking 4 go back to the first grade if you think otherwise.

Rules to success:

Set a Goal
Work fucking hard
Keep Working harder
Work harder than everyone else
Dont give up Keep working

That fucking simple! I believe you can have whatever you want. But wishing for it or thinking your an "idea" or convincing yourself that 2+2=10 is just a waste of your time and brain power. Use some common sense if you spent your whole life trying to turn lead into gold your better off trying to fly by jumping off a cliff flapping your arms.

I don't think anyone would regret pursuing something great in life, it's not about the end result anyway.

And if God wanted men to fly he would given us wings, right? It's a good thing the Wright brothers didn't listen to bullshit like that.

But I agree that some people just don't have the 'the hussle' in them. That's the sad part.

BTW, regarding your basketball example...Mugsy says you can kiss his ass :D

mugsy-bogues---shawn-bradley.jpg

Muggsy is 5'3 not 4'3... a 4'3 man next to a 5'3 man will look similar to your picture of him with MJ. Also, Muggsy will never be a michael jordan or a scottie pippin. No matter what he does it won't happen.

If you agree that there are people that just 'don't have the hussle' in them, you will know that no amount of 'positive thinking' will allow them to have it.

Some people have it in them, some people don't. Will Smith has it in him? Good for him. But to say that people people who don't have it in them, can have it in them is wrong and is based on a smug, self-centered point of view, as what he is doing is projecting himself on others.

Are there people who have it in them and don't exploit it? Sure, no doubt. But swooping generalizations generally fail.

Dude what's up with the defeatist attitude? It's pretty sad actually, I thought most people here were above this crap..

You keep pointing towards physical limitations when in reality they apply to 0.01% of goals that most people fail at. You're talking about a man who's 4'3", which is literally a handicap midget, not succeeding in the single sport where height is a major factor, that's the definition of 'reaching' if I ever heard one. Being a marketer you should understand that there is no certainty in anything when dealing with humans on the micro scale, but when viewed on a macro scale, things are much more predictable.

All Will Smith is saying is that the MAJORITY of people can become anything they want, which I believe to be completely true. For the most part, we're all painted on the same canvas. Saying something like "the hustle isn't in them" is a blank statement, with no real validity. WTF is "the hustle"? Is it some kind of a magic pill that you can take or maybe an additional organ that some of us have and others don't? NO, it's simply a set of actions that ANYONE can take. I think it's a given that if you're a lazy bastard you won't become shit in this world, but that's within your grasp to change and as soon as you delegate that onus onto something else you feel is outside your control, you're acting like 95% of the population and being a complete tool.

This idea of 'becoming anything you want' is not some magical con that you play on the world by covering their eyes with a blanket and masking reality. All it means is that you have a clear vision of what you want and by staying focused on that vision you take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you, some of which are BOUND to materialize. The reason most people don't succeed is not that they have some sort of physical/mental limitations, it's just that they don't take advantage of all the opportunities around them because they are either too afraid of failing, not clear on who or what they want to be, don't believe that they are worthy, or simply don't even realize these opportunities are there.

Limits are for losers, I'm with Big Willie on that one.. And if you're saying that some broke kid from West Philly raised by a single mother was born with so much more opportunities presented to him then you, I think you gotta rethink your whole strategy and maybe go buy a few Tony Robbins or Les Brown seminars :D

Not exactly. But I won't argue that any further since I think you probably get the point I was trying to make.

I agreed about some people not having 'the hustle' or whatever you want to call it. But only to the extent that there are people out there that are either too lazy or don't care enough to improve their situation. For whatever reason, nothing will ever have enough impact on them to inspire them to put in the effort to change their situation.

For every fat dude that wakes up one day and says "Fuck this, time to get some rock hard abs" and actually does it, there will be 15 more porkers that bitch and moan about never having enough time, or enough money to eat right, or the right genetics, or blah blah fucking whiny blah.

That's what I mean about not having it in them. Not that they didn't posses the ability to do it...they just never did. That's why I like this interview. If more people had this mindset than the world would be a much better place.

I think the part where we differ is that I believe that the VAST majority of people DO have it in them. They have just been conditioned since they were little to "be realistic" and "don't rock the boat" and "be careful" and an infinite number of things that do more harm than good.

Any situation can be changed, any personality can be changed, and even childhood conditioning can be given the boot if you want it bad enough to put in the work. I firmly believe that since I've done it myself numerous times.

Didn't will basically cover your rules to success. I think your taking the symbolism, and all of the motivation talk to seriously. Your rules to success are basically the backbone of his message...quit hating people.

Hustle hard, and fuck everything else!

This is true. Ever heard the nature VS nurture argument? Very little of how we act is based on our nature.

If these fat fucks that sit around eating chips and taking bong hits and complaining about having to work more than an hour a day(affiliates?) were hypothetically born in Hong Kong where people work 60-80 hour workweeks if not more, do you think they would still 'not have the hustle in them'? I'm sure they'd find a way to get access to the inaccessible, all-mighty hustle, and get their ass into work 7 days a week.

In my opinion, It all comes down to... When are you ready to throw in the towel?

Everyone has UPS and DOWNS. The biggest thing that separates successful people vs unsuccessful is their ability to deal with the "downs"

Very unsuccessful people give up the moment they have a "down" period.

Average people (what some may consider successful) have worked through many "bad times" but eventually one is too big to handle and they eventually throw in the towel.

And of course super successful people... simply have made it through the most "down times" and still haven't given up. They are still focused and continue moving forward.

It's like a scale... on how much failure your willing to go through, and still not give up. That dictates success in my opinion.

This also assumes a person is motivated. I mean, if you're not motivated and don't have a purpose, your going to give up QUICK. lol

And to the person who said "most people just aren't born with motivation" or whatever...I agree. I don't think anyone is just born motivated. Things motivate us and everyone has the potential to be extremely motivated. You just need something to stimulate it. For some people, it's being told "you can't do this"... for others it may be something like a tragic family death... or a near death experience.

Point is, you need some sort of stimulant that has an impact on you. The bigger the impact, the bigger the purpose you'll have, the bigger the drive, and the bigger the motivation.

So to the person saying... "some of us just need 10 hours of sleep to function" that is BULLSHIT. You just haven't had something make a big enough impact on you yet and your probably just in a rather comfortable situation.

I know this example has been told many times... but if you had a gun to your head... and you HAD to do something... I'm pretty sure you'd go for days and days without sleep to achieve what has to be done.

If you don't succeed at what your doing, what is the END results? The WORSE it is, the more motivated your likely going to be. If it's something absolutely horrifying like death, you're gonna work like a mother fucker until the job is done and sleep won't even enter your minds thoughts. If the end result, means getting a cool car you want... most don't have a problem sleeping and putting it off till tomorrow.

My point is...

The more life or death a scenario is, the greater the motivation will be, and the more failures you'll be willing to work through, without giving up... which will ultimately dictate your level of success.

The tricky part is that most things simply aren't life or death scenario. Not even close. So you almost have to try and "trick" your brain. The better you can trick yourself into believing something is important, the more failures you'll be able to work through without thinking of giving up.

For me personally, I recently invested a huge percentage of my monies. I was comfortable, I didn't feel like working, and I went back to getting full nights sleep, etc. I just couldn't convince myself to work. So by investing most of my money, I put myself into an "emergency" situation, and it's definitely lit a fire under my ass, to say the least. lol

Yep.

This is exactly the reason why people who come from hard backgrounds end up being the biggest hustlers. They were NEVER comfortable with their childhood. They know inside and out how that made them feel, and the rotten things they had to go through because of the cards they were dealt. They will keep pushing forever, because they know, they don't think, they fucking know they'll never return to what was handed to them by chance and without choice.

My uncle grew up dirt poor with an abusive father, became heavily involved in street gangs and eventually started got a job as a filing clerk in a small company. 25 years of hustle(night classes, insane shifts and hard work) later, he became president of a now world class company operating in over 40 countries with thousands of employee's.

I think growing up in this kind of environment either destroys you, or if you had the strength to get through it, gives you a laser focus and determination that no one with a cushy childhood will ever be able to fully understand.

The rest of us, as you give a perfect example of, have to put ourselves in situations where we feel compelled to act on certain things because we don't have any 'reason' not to feel happy with what we've got.

I don't get some of the people on this thread or Howard Stern. It's really simple. All he's saying is hard work can get you everything. Keep hustling and you'll succeed. He paints it in these nutty psychedelic terms, but he's not really saying anything groundbreaking.

I like when I'm able to agree with you about something. :)

Ok I'm not really a fan of Will Smith (and I'm even less of a fan of Scientology), but the shit he's talking about here is fucking golden and isn't related to Scientology in the slightest.

They are simple basic truths that have been proven by exceptional people over and over.

I don't think he just got "Lucky" and turned into a holier-than-thou movie star that's just spitting bullshit to hear himself talk. He's been a successful rapper, TV star, and huge movie star...you don't do all that without hard work and a good attitude.

----

"2+2 only equals 4 if you accept that 2+2 equals 4. 2+2 is going to be what I want it to be."

"I feel very strongly that we are who we choose to be"

"You might have more talent than me, you might be smarter than me, you might be sexier than me...but if we get on a treadmill together, you're getting off first or I'm going to die. It's that simple."

"The guy who is willing to hustle the most is going to be the one that gets the loose ball."

"The majority of people who aren't getting to the places they want or aren't achieving the things that they want...is strictly based on hustle."

---

By the way, you people who are saying "That's bullshit, you can't be anything you want" or "He's a movie star I'll never be like him, what a bunch of crap"...Congratulations, because you're absolutely right. Keep that attitude and you'll never amount to dick.

I believe this is possible since they share the same structure. I've read before that this has been done before more than once (especially with nuclear tech) but it's not practical at all.

Thanks for posting this so I didn't have to :)
