Alright, here's the situation. We live in the country, there are about six houses within a three mile area. We're just south of Austin.

My wife went out for her daily jog and on the way back, just about a quarter mile from home an idiot with a bunch of dogs comes outside and raises his shotgun and shoots straight in her direction and she got, I quote, "peppered" in the face and both legs. He said he was shooting at another dog.

We've now realized that one of the pellets is logged in her right upper cheek about an inch under her eye.

It's a paved road that we both run down every single day. I called the sheriff's department and they were out here within 15 minutes. They talked to us and asked if we thought it was intentional and we said no. They went and talked to the guy who shot her and he apolagized and they took his guns serial number and told her that he was sorry...

I really don't think he intentionally shot at her but never the less he did and now my wife has a shotgun pellet in her face and we don't know what to do about it. We don't have the money to go to the hospital and pay for this shit ourself.

What should we do? Srsly!

This will sound crazy, but I was shot with a .45 slug and I ended up digging out the bullet myself. It hurt like hell, but it's doable. I'd also suggest not running that way anymore.

EDIT:

Be careful. It will cause scaring.

Get HIM to pay for it? He can suck a dick with his sorry, show me the money, know wa I mean?

what? are we being trolled?

if not..

(1) why was he shooting at dogs?
(2) obvious solution is obvious, go to the hospital/urgent care and make the "accidental shooter" pay for the bills.

jesus.

Go to that guys house and make him pay for it? You have the police report that says he did it, if he doesn't want to pay for it then sue him. Why is this not the first thing that comes to mind, the guy will probably write you a check if you just go up to his house and show him what happened.

Heck if its just a small shotgun pellet and there's no other damage you can get it removed for cheap and just file the claim yourself in small claims court if he doesn't want to hand over the hundred or so dollars it costs to remove the damn thing.

1. Go to hospital.

2. Get stuck w/ bills.

3. Sue for medical bills + pain and suffering.

4. ??

5. Profit

Next time make sure an ambulance comes and when the police and/or ambulance attendant asks your Wife to come to the hospital you need to accept. But since this didn't happen and I'm assuming you likely declined the Sheriffs offer for medical attention.... you somewhat weaken your chance at making a successful claim vs the guy who shot your wife.

Similar situation if you get into a car accident and it's not your fault. You always need to accept the medical attention to its full extent even if you think you're not hurt at the time (if you don't accept it and your neck hurts for months on end and never gets better you significantly ruin your odds of compensation).

But anyways, now you need to get it out of your wife's face. She doesn't need a scar the rest of her life so go and get proper medical attention. Oh and take pictures + note down relevant information / dates. Next step, depending how big the bill was, you should see if you can settle it with the shooter... never concede to taking or being responsible for any of this yourself in this convo. If shooter releases his dogs and runs you off his property then you need to do some research and head to small claims (assuming the bill isn't exceeding w/e is considered a small claim down there)
