Just saw another one on CNN this morning. Indonesia this time. We'll isn't it always in Indonesia?

25 dead as Indonesian ferry sinks - CNN.com

What the hell is the problem with these Ferry's across the world? We don't have too many of them here in the United States, but you sure as hell never hear about them sinking over here.

Do they just purposely overfill these boats in third world countries? Do they ignore bad weather? I'd bet more people die in ferry sinkings each year than plane & train accidents combined.

I'm serious about this, why do these ferries sink so often, and why are there never any survivors?

no government regulation, no routine checkup. and those ship are overloaded all the time. We have tunnel and bridges and all they have is dirt road.

i can't imagine a train like this in US

we do our own in with tour bus crashes and automobile accidents (roughly 40,000 a year). besides the pacific northwest (and maybe northeast) there is no need for ferries across most of the u.s. so we don't hear about it around these parts. it's a numbers game, anytime you're moving people, accidents are going to happen.
