What is stopping some guy that lives in some random forest in Laos from getting a bunch of servers, being free from government intervention, and streaming the rips, charge $8 per month per person for all the stuff not on Netflix?

hrm, lets see:

1) Who is going to process CCs or $ for them? They will def not be able to process VISA for something like this. Merchant accounts that can process Visa, AMEX, MC, Discover cost $. They will all demand to see the site before approval and they will say LOL nope once they see a site like that. This is where your offshore and shady//bp merchant already setup accounts come into play but GL with all of that unless you have a lot of money and connections. You could accept crypto currencies if you want to remain small/medium sized and accept ez $.

2) Bandwidth. GL w that streaming and out of a 3rd world shithole or really anywhere. You will pay out the ass. Remember, streaming = downloading. Streaming uses an insane amt of BW. Netflix is plagued by big ISPs for how much data their service consumes and being taxed even now.

3) Free from gov intervention? Meet the United States Department of Justice. They will spend millions on fighting a domain name takedown or making up charges and reasons to destroy you via lobbyists from the MPAA and RIAA. Enjoy those legal costs if you arent making any money. Spend a lot on BP hosting and domains.

4) Offshore//BP hosting is expensive.

The simple answer is, it takes a lot of money to conquer the warez/piracy niche.
