Which kind of affiliate programs to start with

Hi,
I am pretty new to aff marketing.
I have some affiliate programs that I am signed up with but my sites are new and don't have traffic.
So I don't know which kind of programs convert and which not.
I don't have money for ads right now, so I am building links mostly manually, maybe I will use some link building services in WF.

My question is, how do you pick a product to promote, only CPA or PPS or what.
Where can I find these kind of programs.
