Where to go in Costa Rica?

Most likely going to stay just north of Jaco.. Here's the place:

I could rim that all night long! Dat Ass! She must shit gold!

CR is fun. Outside of what others have said, I had a good time in Montezuma.
They eat way too much beans and rice though... can't say I miss the beer either.

For the surfboard and surf, Playa Hermosa. The Brickyard hotel is the perfect combination of quality but not so nice that you can't party it up. Good wifi connection.

I think it's on Wednesday when their bar has ladies nights == hookers everywhere, but there were also tons of travelers too. These white girls were all over me and my friends, but I was so stoned and paranoid that I thought they were prostitutes and wouldn't dance too hard much with them (I'm not into the pay for play thing ever). Was a fun night. They weren't prostitutes. Hah

For herbal, they call Montezuma "Montefuma" for a reason.

Personally, I am not at all attracted to Latin American women, so really no comments on the weekend nightlife anywhere. Probably find the most touristy spot (Tamarindo? Never been there) and bang some traveling American gringas.

Think you mean Backyard Hotel & Bar - Amazing spot in Hermosa, the bar/club opens out onto the sand, and yup Wednesday is ladies night where ladies get in free, this is one of the best spots in the area IMO, was there in Dec10/Jan11

Tamarindo is pretty touristy like others have said but still very nice spot, but the drive from where your going to be to Tamarindo is pretty nasty, I mean they have one main highway and your going to be driving in dirt - If you rent a car rent a nice jeep with big tires. I was staying in on the border of Jaco/Hermosa, my friend lives there and we took a week and did the west most coast, so Tamarindo for New Years (full of Americans) amazing party til 7am + slept on the beach, down South to Nosara (pretty boring and sleepy yoga/get healthy town) and than Mal Pais and Montezuma Falls - If you do want to go for a drive I suggest go up to Puntarenas and you can take a fairy across the water and drive to Mal Pais from there. The drive from Tamarindo to Mal Pais there were many 'water crossings' where there are like little rivers upto 2 - 3 feet deep so a jeep will go through no problem but we had this little bangbus looking japanese 7 seater with like 15inch wheels so you can imagine it wasnt pleasant. Mal Pais is great, kinda touristy but I really enjoyed it. We rented ATV's for the day and took them on our own to Montezuma Falls. If you want to ATV I suggest not to waste your money on a 1 or 2 hour tour with a guide(we did this in Jaco my friend lives there) it is much more enjoyable renting them and trekking around on your own.

Do not waste your time in San Jose

Do not go to the Carribean side - Dirty, dangerous and ya just dont bother

Do not be flashy, no need for flashy jewelry or flashy watches or any of that, enjoy be simple and straightforward and they wont pay a lot of attention to you but of course they can see a tourist, but than again there are many americans, canadians and even europeans that actually live there.

I could go on forever, PM me if you have any specific questions or anything.

Im ready to go surf again down there!!!!!!!!!

Oh and definitely go ziplining, I think I did it with Adventure tours, just north of Jaco, so probably close to you, had like 14 or 16 zips that you go through, was pretty amazing.

Shit, good tip there. Completely forgot about it. We rented some piece of shit, non-4x4 hatchback. We ended up blowing out 2 tires on rutted out dirt roads and we had so many boards on the roof racks it tore them completely out of the roof and the racks were barely hanging on. Down there, be sure to get the insurance on your rental.

The only thing cool in SJ is the Gran Hotel. It's got a pretty nifty casino and bar which can be fun to kill a few hours. Other than that, get your rental and head west young man.

Been on business trips to San Jose quite a few times but did not have a lot of opportunity to see the country. Rainforest tours, Beaches, Volcano Tours. The Real Intercontential Hotel is a nice place to stay in the San Jose burbs.

Your vacation is now planned. WF is a quality travel agent!

WRT San Jose, I think it's a hellhole. I also had an attempted pickpocketing there that failed because my buddy was heads-up and blew some shit up. Was crazy. F that place.

LOL ya we had boards on top but no roof rack, so tied them through the windows which meant the back two doors wouldnt open unless we untied them, defintely get a good jeep with insurance, we rented upon a spontaneous plan on New Years Eve so there was like no availability, highly suggest you spend a few days and go for a drive
