not that I use them, but I seem to recall they have been 8.75 for ages. Now they are 9.99.

When did that happen, and is it actual evidence of inflationary pressure in the US finally breaking out???

It happened a couple days ago as far as I can tell. Now for a .com and private registration its up to like 17 bucks per domains.

Probably went up cuz there's a bunch of coupons floating around anyway to get them a few bucks cheaper.

I think it went up because they now sponsor danica patrick and some other hotties...costs money to look that good!

You guys still use Godaddy?!

They're draconian.

Given their prices, bullying tactics and cold calls, they don't provide enough value.

and here comes the godaddy bashing.... try to be company the size of them without any problems, and if you do - you'll never change and/or innovate anything and therefore die.

In case you can't find an active Godaddy coupon, here's what to do - search for godaddy on Google and you'll get their paid ad on the top.

Click on it instead of reaching the site in a normal way and your domain will cost $7.20 total ($6.95 + $0.25 ICANN fee).

I found it a year or so ago and it hasn't failed me since.

I use Google domains, and I get domains for $10 with free privacy. Are there any drawbacks to that? They use eNom.

What's the renewal fee for those domains? Cost of privacy?

Privacy is free for a year for 5 or more domains, but has some nonsensical price after that. I usually register the domains at Godaddy, 5 at a time, and then transfer them to other places when they're about to expire.

NN, if I'm inferring correctly, I agree with you. Completely.

If Godaddy's measures are consistent with their long-term goals (ROI, growth, brand, etc.), then they should do what they're doing. Same with any business or individual.

But, my comment was unclear. I wasn't suggesting Godaddy should change.Rather, I was suggesting that merchants and affiliates think twice before using Godaddy. Here's why...

True story: I'm a merchant. One of my products has many affiliates. Some of these affiliates have lists they mail. Long ago, one affiliate mailed his list. He mentioned my product. A lady who received his mail saw my product URL, saw my domain was at Godaddy and complained about having received the e-mail.

Godaddy contacted me and said (I'm paraphrasing as it's been years), "Get her to retract her complaint, then pay us $200 by xx/xx/xxxx or we'll take your domain from you."

I was flabbergasted.

There was no way for me to get the lady to retract her complaint as I did not know the lady (she was on my affiliate's list, not mine). For that matter, I didn't even know who the affiliate was (I have many).

I immediately transferred that domain to another registrar (before Godaddy's deadline).

I told a few friends as I couldn't believe what had just happened. Two of my friends knew other people to whom it had happened. Further research yielded tons of other similar stories.

I'm a reasonable man, always eschewing emotion for logic. Godaddy should definitely pursue their goals and strategy. But, affiliates and merchants should be cautious with Godaddy.

That said, I should have given a clearer reason for considering Godaddy a poor choice for most affiliates and merchants. My fault completely.

Scary story! Thanks for sharing it. I will hesitate to use GoDaddy for new domains. (I have one domain through them now.)

If you actually use GoDaddy, GB3 has worked for a long time to get $6.95 .com's.

Personally, I'm also through with them. Domains and hosting. Like LordBrar, I'm moving everything to Moniker. And I'm moving my hosting to Hostgator and LiquidWeb.
