It seems like the people who are doing this affiliate marketing game are all of a certain personality type.

I noticed that most of us have very similar personalities and senses of humor.

Also, a lot of you seem to have very creative minds.

So I'm wondering - whats your why?

What motivated you to get into affiliate marketing (besides the obvious fact that you can't stand working a normal job and hate having a boss).

Mine is filmmaking.

My goal is to make a feature length movie with profits from my affiliate marketing. Got into making money online in 2005 after I wrote a screenplay, and it's finally coming together thanks to profits from affiliate marketing.

Constant need to compete against intelligent people.
I love knowing it's me vs insert_massive_company. Especially when I win.
Honestly, I don't even spend money. I buy food, cigarettes, and some booze and such on the weekends.
I love the money, but as a measure of how good/bad I am at what I'm doing more than for the face value.

I do it so when I become a multi -millionaire I can tell people, "you know, it's not really about the money"

Do you guys have any big goals or anything you want to accomplish though, like start a restaurant, get into real estate, travel the world, etc?

The awesome money is a great reason don't get me wrong =P

I want to become the president of the united states :)

And travel the world...

It's about freedom for me, doing what I want when I want.

The money is obviously nice, but for me it has always been about self respect and being in control. The money just measures how succesful you are. My main motivation is to show all the people who doubted me and looked down on me. I don't know if that sounds pathetic but the drive increases everytime I get a new negative comment by some smug wannabe corporate schmuk.

I just did it to be happy. I was freakin miserable in the Corporate scene and now, I'm just loving life. It feels great to finally be where I'm supposed to be. (did I just sound like an ebook?)

As for financial goals. We have a "portland fund" where we're putting a big chunk of my income per month into so that we can someday soon move to a place like portland and by a nice house. Maybe instead we should call it a "get the fuck out of texas" fund cause thats all we really want to do.

Definitely freedom. I am not making much off of affiliate marketing right now, but I am making money from websites I run. No boss, sleep in, etc.

to continue to have the privilege to watch baseball and other sports while I work ( Like I am doing now from my laptop)

to be able to be rewarded more for my critical thinking by cutting out all middlemen.

to not only be the 'man' of the house, but also of my career.

to continue going to bed at night not dreading the next morning.

oh..

and the affiliate commissions are pretty nice :D

hacker n.
[originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe]
1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary.
2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming.
3. A person capable of appreciating hack value.
4. A person who is good at programming quickly.
5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in `a Unix hacker'. (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.)
6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example.
7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations.

this 'why' applies to all of my endeavors.

Motivation was a business i could run myself, no boss, hours, and especially NOT AN MLM haha.

But I'm only doing affiliate marketing while i hone my horticulture skills. Once i have skills that im happy with and enough connections throughout California, I'll be growing marijuana as my main source of income. Thats a year or so down the line though.

It's interesting...sort of like a sub-culture all its own. Almost as if we're a bunch of carneys pimpin' these rigged games. "Step right up folks..."
