I'm not talking about Vonage, Skype, Yahoo, Google voice services, etc. If you have rolled-your-own setup, I am curious as to what kind of gear people are using and are happy with. VOIP enabled routers? USB phones? USB phone adapters? Maybe some cordless phones that work well with your setup?

^^Nice. OK, so this is all hardware - as long as your broadband and adapter are powered up, you are sending and receiving calls - no software interface required?

Yep all hardware, but you'll probably need the help of your voip provider to get it setup.. Provisioning those PAP's was not easy, as I don't fully understand the 30+ lines of information they punched into the voip to make it work..

we use polycom 500 SIP phones, with pbxtra (fonality) + softphones for outbound

I use broadvoice for over 5 years now (broadvoice.com) and have their SIP device for one line. In the 5 years I can only thing of 1 or 2 times where there have been issues. They were the original cheap quality voip provider, way before vonage.

broadvoice looks good but don't they force you to take thier 'dedicated' VPN even though its not completely necessary
