So, I am interested in knowing what is a good major for PPC/ internet marketing, at the moment I'm thinking a mix between marketing/advertisement in conjunction with a minor in web something. Has anybody here taken a particular college major and found it useful for PPC or other types of online marketing?

thank you very much in advance

Shit son, I got a bachelor's in IM from Full Sail. Now, I'm big pimping.

Or was it University of San Fran?

on a serious note, probably something pertaining to computer science or mathematics.

just teach urself php/css/html and read some stuff and you're good to go

computer science.

Reasons
1) programming
2) if you can get through it you atleast have some sort of brain

computer science with a marketing minor? If you are going to spend the time and money I would try to get a broader eduction out of it than just PPC/IM.

Do they thing that is your weakest link. I.e. if you know computers well, don't bother with the computer science classes (I made that mistake). If you are good at advertising, but bad at computers, then do the computers.

Maybe psychology?

I think you will need decent programming skills , plus you must know good amount of SEO and stuff to promote yourself online. That would be good to go. I guess full sail University offers degree courses in IM.

Universities don't teach this stuff. Get a degree in a different field - diversify. Get a degree where you'll socialize and get the university experience. Computer science (and even Business) is not conducive to partying and getting laid.

I got my undergraduate in Management Information Systems. It's the business-side of computer science. I'm now getting my master's in Internet Technology.

Neither of those degrees are directly related to Internet Marketing. Though, you get marketing and business knowledge, and some web development skills in them. I mainly got/am getting them to have a fall-back should I need to work for someone else or to expand my options for other business horizontals and verticals.

You have to have contingency plans. If you don't, you'll get screwed.

whats this Full Sail IM degree all about? I've been seeing banners and ads promoting that site all the time...

I doubt Full Sail can teach me anything special about IM and it seems to me just a big fat ebook one of the gurus promote!!

your money would be much better spent trying to get a ppc campaign to work or building out a solid seo site

Working on my associates degree in IT now. Hoping to get my MIS later on down the road. Planning on getting the following certifications along the way:

CCNA
CCISP
CEH

I'd like to work as a security consultant in the future within this business.

We'll see what happens along the way

Universities are pretty cheap if you go to state, have a scholarship or parents are footing the bill. It's not bad to have.

There will always be times when someone will ask if you have a degree. Or if you just offer it, it will shut them up.

I have a Marketing degree but when I got it there was no Emarketing bach degrees. I would get that. Everything is going electronic, paper is dead.

But programming is good too. Regex, php, and scripts come up occasionally. But I think hardcore programming is going away for websites. CMS rules and will rule more.

But if you really hate programming get the marketing. Maybe both.

I'd say try to get into business first and then take a Comp-Sci as an elective. If you have an affinity for programming, then you can always switch. If not, at least you will have the basics down so you can easily pick up web languages.

I say biz degree (marketing or w.e.) so you have the time to actually work on your own shit. I was in engineering and that shit drained me. Compsci can do the same if you just really don't "get it".

But no matter what you do, take a very basic programming class. I'd recommend C. if it wasn't for that one class in first year I wouldn't have picked up other languages as fast.
