Im taking my girls to the American Girl Doll store in Chicago. I wont have time to meet with anyone, but could you hip me to what to do in Chi-town?

The store is at the Water Tower Place on Michigan

I have no clue what else is near this addy yet, what good hotels to stay in close by, what good places to eat, where to take the kids to later on afterwards, etc.

Help me out!

Go to the bar, get a hard liquor shot. Get a couple of girls, get them to try to do E. Get them home, give 'em cock (hopefully they'll minaj before you reach your garage).

Oh my bad, just read your post lol. The great things about kids is that they are magical. It isn't about where you go but what you do. Just think of a silly activity that might have some sort of challenge and a reward at the end. They always enjoy that kind of stuff.

I used to love "treasure hunts" back when i was 6-7. The prize was a little bit of money at the end (probably the equivalent of $10 today) but the fun was racing my parents to the finish. Guess who made the whole course for 3 people * 10-20 clues? My older brother.

Trump Towers is pretty pimp. Millenium park and Navy Pier will keep them entertained. There's a beach right by Navy Pier as well. Lincoln Park zoo is free and pretty nice, which will be a 10min cab.

I am pretty sure the Drake hotel is right by there

If they like horses, take them on a horse carriage ride around the city

Take a boat ride down the chicago river and see the architecture. If you go on a wednesday or saturday night the boat tour comes back to Navy Pier and ends with a fireworks show

Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, both great for kids

Get some deep dish pizza, giordanos, ginos east, lou malnatis etc.

Lincoln Park Zoo is free

The hancock building is on the next block to the water tower. Nice observation deck. There is also a restaurant at the top.

If I think of more kid friendly stuff I'll let you know, but this should give you some ideas

Tons of great food with in a few blocks radius of that point. The wife and I go there a few times a year. Lots and lots of shopping as well if your into that sort a thing. Navy pier is pretty pimp, but also fairly crowded. I second taking the kids to a museum or the Shedd aquarium.

Not sure how old your girls are but I'm sure they would like the "Magnificent mile". It's a huge shopping mall. The Chicago museums are some of the best in the country.

Navy Pier is overpriced and crowded and touristy, but it is definitely cool from a kid's perspective. The children's museum is great if they're still young.

Macy's on State Street (formerly the Marshall Field's) is cool just because it's something like 12-stories high with a Tiffany glass dome - and the bottom floor has all kinds of fancy chocolates and stuff. If you have chocolate lovers, it can be fun to go look at all the chocolate and pick out a piece or two.

Field Museum is great for Egyptian stuff and dinosaur bones...Museum of Science and Industry is a bit of a cab ride, but it's super cool. There's some kind of doll house exhibit I remember seeing, a human heart you can walk through, some planes/subs/etc that you can check out, etc. Also, I believe they still have a water taxi from Navy Pier over to the Field Museum/Planetarium/Aquarium campus.

Restaurants - Rock n Roll McDonalds is pretty cool for kids...as is Ed Debevics, which is like an old diner and the staff members all have attitudes and sing and dance, etc. If you're into Chicago-style pizza, Gino's East is a requirement. When you're at Water Tower Place, check out Foodlife. It's basically a giant food court with reasonably palatable, affordable, and healthy options. They give you a card and you wander around getting everything you want and putting it on the card...then you pay all at once. Super easy and great for picky eaters :)

As far as hotels are concerned, I have really good luck in Chicago with HotWire. As long as you stick with 4-5 stars, you really can't go wrong - there are a ton of nice hotels in that area.

Some of this has been covered. Water tower mall is cool. The Hancock tower is basically next door. I'd do the sears (Willis) tower instead but it is farther away. There are a ton of shops on Michigan ave. pricey of course. If you go to maceys (fields) have lunch in the walnut room. Navy pier is very over rated, but they have the children's museum there is also a cool ferris wheel there

Lincoln park zoo is not far. The river architectural cruise is cool but not going to be that interesting to kids. You can take the water taxi from navy pier to the aquarium and planetarium , both over rated in my opinion.

Millennium park is worth a 10 minute stop to see the bean, little more.

The field museum or the science and industry museums are the best. The sci museum is quite a bit south. The field (marshal fields) is great and kids will love the Egyptian stuff and sue Rex, the latest most complete t-Rex.

There are lots of places to take kids to eat like hard rock, genie and on and on. Don't take them to dicks last resort!

Don't know I you are driving or flying or how long your staying. If flying fly to midway. I driving there is some limited parking on street near water tower, but it's a little iffy. If you are going to stick to michigan ave there is parking around there including in the Hancock. If your going to be further south as well I'd park at grants underground near millennium. parking will be about 25 for the day probably more near water tower. If you park at a hotel is going to be a minimum of 50. People have been getting one of the hotels at the river and Michigan for about 75 on Priceline, see betterbidiing.com. Otherwise a couple hundred. The Palmer house is historic and very nice but has small rooms. The Marriott is pretty cool.

You can buy a pass for five bucks on weekends that lets you ride the busses and el all day. Check their website for maps and details. Driving downtown really isn't bad should you bring a car.

Check to see what's going on when you are there, taste of Chicago, etc. if the taste is on its going to likely mean higher room rates and more difficult traffic and parking.

If it was me I'd probably go from the doll store to Hancock tower then go to the field museum. You could the. Take a cab or whatever to the aquarium where you could take the water taxi to navy pier and do the ferris wheel. It might be a bit much at their age, don't know.

I'd meet you for lunch on the way up but you'll probably go north through Indy.

Have fun!

Sears Tower, then hit up Ginos East.
Then succumb to the heatwave after the storm just took out your A/C.

Went to Chicago last month, pretty sure I gained five pounds in three days (just burned it off). I'm going back up this month to look for a condo.

Things to see if you're at Water Tower (that's where I stayed and the neighborhood I'm looking for a condo in).

Signature Lounge in Hancock Center
Navy Pier for the kiddies
Portillos
ESPN Zone
Garmin & Apple Store
Gibsons
Willis Tower
Field Museum
Art Museum
Millennium Park

If you have any sea legs do the riverboat tour of the city. Everyone loves it.

Good luck buddy

If you're driving it might be better with younger kids to go to Indy. They have a great. Holden's museum and the zoo is nice for younger kids because it is smaller than st louis or Brookfield in Chicago. Get there early to get free tickets to the dolphin show. The circle city? Mall downtown would be fun for them and you could eat at spaghetti factory.

Just another thought.

Go to Boystown, your girlfriend will love it.

If you're looking for a date and can make miracles happen:

Alinea
Nomi for lunch the next day

Wow, you're pretty brave to go all the way to downtown chi town just for a doll... Heck, we have an American girl doll store in my local mall. ;)

But if your trip is set for Chicagoland, just drive up and down the waterfront doing things like the Shedd, the Adler planetarium, Navy Pier, and that zoo, all on the waterfront. There's also a kick-ass Chinatown just south of those, and tons of interesting malls throughout.

Oh yeah, take 'em to the top of the Willis tower, too. (formerly sears tower) Kids love that shit, you can see to Neptune on a clear day.

...Just be ready for some traffic!
