What printer do you use that doesn't make you want to commit suicide?

HP officejet 4255 all in one has been fine apart from the odd paper jam, but considering I don't maintain it by perioidically cleaning the gears and rollers along the tape path, I'm not surprised. Ink is a bit expensive but overall it's been a reliable unit, like all my HP gear.

Make that paper path. Some simple cleaning using rubbing alcohol, acetone ect can prevent the majority of jams but no one does it. To point out the bleeding obvious, anything mechanical needs some sort of regular maintenance.

I have a HP LaserJet 6L from 1998 that still runs today. I shit you not. It just refuses to die.

I've got a HP 1020 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/HP-LaserJet-Printer-Q5911A-ABA/dp/B0009EM13G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370052951&sr=8-2&keywords=laserjet+1020]Amazon.com: HP LaserJet 1020 Printer (Q5911A#ABA): Electronics[/ame] that I've had since 2004. Just needs the occasional toner cartridge ($11 - 13)

I know what you're talking about with the ink drying up. I bought all new cartridges a while back (5 total), printed the approximately 2 pages I needed to print, then didn't need to print anything for a few months... and when I went to print, the ink cartridges were totally empty. I was... upset.

I doubt the ink actually dried up. They have chips now in the inkjet cartridges that tells the printer the cartridge is "expired" whether its full of ink or not, even if its never been used.

Ink Expiration | HP® Support

Basically ink expiration is a built-in date on which certain HP ink cartridges will stop working. Air ingestion and water evaporation can cause ink to change over time. In printing systems where the printhead and ink supply are separate, older ink can adversely impact the printhead and the ink delivery components within the printer. With ink expiration, however, HP can prevent this from happening.

Have you ever seen an ink pen or marker with an expiration date on it?

The bit at about 1:30 annoys me as it shows how they've reduced the size, internally over the years to make them hold even less ink.

I'd not want one of these for free. I actually got one free with a computer purchase, and it didn't last long.

I dont print often . But when i do i use my $20 HP . Never had any issues in years .

kinkos.

Seriously I hate printers, always out of ink or dried up ink when I need it. I don't use them very often, so when I do I usually get it done professionally as it's usually something color, high resolution, etc.

Even at work our printer's been out of one color of ink for a month, and it prints like shit (resolution), needs some expensive part (head or something) the owner doesn't wanna pay for so even there we just get it printed and pick it up.
