The coders I'm using - a team from Pakistan that I hired through Rent-A-Coder - seem to be good coders but amazingly non-communicative. I had to put the project into arbitration to get a simple response from them regarding an important issue, and once they finally growled back a response, the fix was easy. They had me ranting for two weeks trying to get reply satisfaction, and the arbitrator had to finally step in and threaten to kick them off the project if they didn't respond.

I still don't understand why I had to be put through this. Can somebody decode the coder mind for me?
 


The mindset of some Asians includes only a low level of responsibility. If they are hired for coding and their contracts says coding, they will hardly do anything else, because it's not their responsibility. Even if some asks them to send a reply they will think like: "Oh, i'm not hired for that, my boss will kick me if i reply." This is especially true for low paid workers.
 
rentacoder SUCKS. use elance.com the people they have there are amazing and work cheap
 
yup- the coders I hired through a middle company are pretty bad at anything but very detailed orders. If I don't specify exactly, to the letter, what I want they basically have no common sense and/or design skills.

At least they can code well- and I don't have to do the yelling myself!

Let me guess your against offshore work..

I would rather pay someone offshore , then a american who will come up with 100000 excuses and lies. But I guess it boils down to what your goals are and what you will do to achieve them.


And they probably didnt respond because like stated above the contract said only code, they will get in trouble otherwise, which is shitty because on jobs like that you have to have a 100% gameplan otherwise details will be left out.

Try out elance next time.

You can have it done cheap
You can have it done fast

Pick the two that are most important to you, you'll never get all 3. I prefer fast/well.

Im a coder, and even if I am going to be late on a project I let people know, I dont say "Oh shit my dog died, my girlfriend got hit by a car, ill be back in 3 weeks" and never message the person again, thats shitty in my opinion...Those people need to be hung by their nuts

You can get a bad coder/designer anywhere, anytime, sounds like the OP just happend to be the lucky fuck that got the pakis that can code, but not send an email...
