Not to hijack your thread, but I work in the moving & storage industry for my 9-5. A little more than a year ago I went into the sales side not knowing diddly squat. Now I'm closing sales and think I have a fairly good grasp on it. Just haven't found a way to convert that industry into a niche in IM yet.

The keyword here is YET.

Stop taking AM so seriously and read the following (old ass thread)

I sat around doing fuck all for ages because I was scared and built a scarcity mentality around money for myself and was afraid to spend money from my pocket as I couldn't see the potential in it. The thing is, as soon as you start taking some action you realise that you absolutely HAVE to buy data to start and that you learn so, so much just by getting started and doing SOMETHING. Remember - 99% of the people on the Internet are likely making 1% of the money. As soon as you start making campaigns and stop reading you go from being in spectator mode (watching everyone else get rich), to PLAYER MODE which is where the learning and magic happens.

Here's some random generic advice:

1. Set up and learn Prosper and track everything to keyword level. EVERYTHING. Don't even start until you have set it up so that you know which keywords convert and which don't. It's free. Hosting is cheap. There is no excuse. This was a game changer for me.

2. Start with campaigns with a lower payout as they'll allow you to get a rounded idea of the testing/optimisation process without having to spend a fortune. Games, dating or email/zip submits can be good.

3. Set your campaign up and DON'T TOUCH IT for the first 24 hours. Just let data flood in and make some changes based on that. Don't micro-manage everything to fuck and pause a keyword after one click because you get scared. Just set an acceptable overall daily budget for the campaign.

4. Find out what offers are hot on the networks and push them. Some offers plain suck. EWA are good for sending out emails for this so if you're not a member already sign up to them. Their affiliate managers will also help you get rolling. Mine is Jared he's awesome.

5. Pick a traffic source and stick with it. There's a tendancy to try and learn everything and want to experiment but that just adds another variable to your noob career. Pick somewhere (Facebook, MSN, Media Traffic, Plenty Of Fish etc) and stick with it until you learn how to get something profitable there. My first big 'lightbulb' moments were on Trafficvance.

Good luck in your mission sir!

This.

The thing is (and this was something huge that I didn't get for a long time) is that the only way you can LOSE at this game is by not playing and sitting on the sidelines.

You cannot fail to improve, gain knowledge or learn as long as you are making campaigns. Even if some lose money, you've paid for your education and you've learnt what NOT to do next time. Winning and learning, winning and learning. On a long enough timeline, you cannot fail.

Fuck I used to spend like $100 on a night out on alcohol or on dumb retarded shit.... it's a much better investment to throw that into a PPC campaign as education and learn how to make potentially a very, very good living.

Stop over analysing and start working. I guarantee you will learn more from actually making a campaign than thinking about it.

and your making millions....pfft

He didn't say he was making millions.

He said you're getting outworked, outsmarted and outhustled. He also said you're unlucky. Quit foisting your own insecurities on others by putting words in their mouths.

I've seen your threads. You always seem like an emotional wreck. Shore up your mind or you don't have long in this business.

Oh and just for guffaws, I'll give you a head start:

Shut up Jake. Like you're making millions....pfft

I'm not making millions.

I'm not making millions.

typical wf tuff guy. millions/thousands...if you believe someone's banking thousands off gaming offers then you're quite the idiot yourself.

Actually you're the retard, and it explains why the fuck you've been failing for so many years.

Shore up your mind or you don't have long in this business.

bunch of peeps in here talking the talk as if they're 'banking' and you come at me with 'you don't have long in this business' ??

guarantee you 99% of the peeps in here don't make shit.

I don't think it was.

But here's what I've gathered.

You need to get back to the basics. Like pro basketball players practice shooting free throws all day or a pro baseball player hits 1000 balls a day.

Stick to the fundamentals.

I think you have some talent with SEO so just focus on that; do what you're already good at.

Monetize with simple shit. Forget about limited-lifespan offers for now.

-Even though people laugh at Adsense it pays all my expenses right now and then some. Even a retard with one arm could earn with Adsense, just slap it up there above the fold.

-EPN has been the easiest and fastest way to good $$ for me online. As long as you can get in their program.

-Amazon sucks because of their 24hour cookie but I hate messing with a million individual merchants.. I'm a simple guy and I just want something I can set and forget so its a tradeoff. Not as profitable as EPN but good to diversify yourself. A shit load of products. Trusted merchant, good conversions.

Strategy:

Build a site about a product.
Get/Write unique content about relevant keywords.
Every page should have a call to action.
SEO the shit out of your pages.
Profit.

I don't know what you're doing, but don't get too creative. Don't tackle too many projects at once.

And focus.

JUST FOCUS ON THE SIMPLE FORMULA

You talk a lot about your failed projects. If you stick to this simple formula even your failed projects make money. Basically, there is no such thing as a failed project -- everything earns.

Now put your nose to the grindstone for a year and thank me on July 12th, 2011.

Remember the top reasons people fail online:

-Having a new pet project every week.
-Giving up.
-Learning to much, not enough action.
-Getting sidetracked by stupid shit.
-Not focusing and putting in the work needed to earn. (like what I'm doing now)

Good luck bros

really solid post Andrew, +rep

LOL, I love watching people I know from other places fight on here.

Something tells me you're a waste of time. No advice in the world is going to do you any good.

Good luck.

LOL

i've gotten some good advise here...no doubt.

i've gotten the usual wf tuff guy responses as well...that's always a sure bet to get.

i just LOL at the peeps in here talking as if they're banking.

I'm sensing the typical American attitude of "If what I'm doing isn't working, do it HARDER".

F THAT! If what you're doing isn't working, do something DIFFERENT. It's tough to look in the mirror and say "I am sucking balls right now, I need to change". But when you're able to swallow your pride and methodically fix your problems, you will start to see improvement.

I'm no baller here compared to some, but I'm figuring shit out. Here's what I say:

1. Have hobbies outside of computing that you can become a subject matter expert on. For instance, one of mine is surfing. But preferably in an industry that has stuff you can profit from.

2. Using your knowledge of that industry, stay in tune and jump on something that you fully believe in that is going to be hot. This reminds me of the guy who wrote about phandroid.com (find that thread, very good)

3. Make good websites around this hot new thing. Personally, I like selling products that I think are gonna be up-and-comers.

4. Get hustlin and read better books.

I'm not into BizOpps and Rebills myself. I don't believe and would get bored. I don't make shitty flogs and spam the internet with them. I make QUALITY, informative websites geared around products that I want to sell. And the sites last as long as the products are popular. They are starting to build up more and more money with each new campaign.

This is my take. It's not the same as others, but it works for me and it's something I'm proud of.

PS - Fuck luck and fuck you or anyone else for ever calling me lucky. I hear it all the time from losers in my hometown... oh I'm lucky I do well, I'm lucky I got on TV, etc etc. FUCK YOU. I'm not lucky. While you were watching 5 hours of TV a day, I was busting my goddamn balls figuring shit out.
