What do you guys think about this? Seen it?

You will leave the theater shaken.

Just thought that was a tad weird.

Ignorance is bliss.

What ignorance? I haven't seen the flick but I'm pretty sure I'm well aware of 90% of the stuff this movies talks about and then some. What I'm trying to say is it's nothing new. If you read my second response you should have got the clue. Is it good that people are trying to get the word out there? Of course. I'm just saying it's the same old story.

So now that that's out of the way, what are you doing to reduce your impact on this planet, please share - since you don't seem to be ignorant of these issues. Please enlighten us oh not so ignorant one.

Did you PIITB?

I duno I wasn't paying attention to her

So I just watched the movie. It's not bad... but there's really not anything new that hasn't been argued about ad nauseum here in STS.

I enjoyed Ruppert's guy's speaking style and voice, which helped, but there's not tons of takeaways if you've already read stuff in the "conspiracy theory / new world order / peak oil" realm.

But if this guy knows so much, why does the movie end by telling you he's late on his rent payment in Culver City? If he knew mortgage backed securities were gonna collapse, why not do something like [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Big-Short-Inside-Doomsday-Machine/dp/0393072231"]these guys did[/ame]? I don't like any movie where the protagonist is a loser, and this kind of fits that bill.

But I won't say it's all for naught... I came up with an extension of one of my major business plans thanks to this movie. So for me, it was worth the watch. Take that, peak oil!

its on netflix too. It's really good.
I don't really think what he's saying is gonna happen, but definitely worth watching.

Watched a couple months back while working so I probably missed some of the finer details but still a good watch.

I'm not sure I understand the peak oil concept correctly. Isn't oil subject to normal supply and demand forces like anything else? When oil becomes more scarce, won't the price just go up to levels that make alternatives more viable options? Or new oil fields could be drilled in places that weren't economically feasible with lower prices. I don't know the exact price points, but at some point it does become profitable to drill in the Canadian tar sands, so as the price of oil goes up new oil fields will also open up.
