Ok, let's do this. dchuk went to the wedding, mattseh did his thing, and I'm back to being healthy. Who's all in?

We'll just go off mattseh's specs:

https://gist.github.com/mattseh/87226de13b5181cdb86c

Unless someone with project management experience who won't be participating by chance wants to write up some specs (exact same format as mattseh's is perfect), and send them to us at the same time? I personally don't believe we should know what we're developing until the clock starts ticking, although I know you guys don't agree.

Anyway, so dchuk mentioned 24 hours devel time? Good for everyone?

And what date? Is say the 22nd by chance good for everyone?

And most importantly, who's all in? Any and all skill levels / languages welcome. No rules or limitations, and you're allowed to use whatever is at your disposal. If you're a Wordpress expert, and believe you can put together a quality solution with WP and some plugins, then by all means, jump in. No rules at all.

No prizes, except for bragging rights. I doubt we'll even be able to pick a winner anyway, so doesn't matter. However, excellent learning opportunity for some, great opportunity to showcase your skills to potential clients for others, and also just good fun.

If you're in, drop a reply to this thread.

I'm in. Are we talking 24 total hours of coding time, or a single day turn around time?

I'm thinking 24 hour turn around time. That way, everyone gets the same amount of time regardless of timezone. You're just waking up, whereas I should have been in bed a couple hours ago.

Or I don't know, you're the one who mentioned 24 hours originally. Did you maybe want to extend it to 48 or 72? Makes zero difference to me.

well I think we either do 24 turn around or 8 hours of work spread out over the course of like a week or something for those who can't dedicate a full day to it. I can try and carve out a dedicated day next week to do this though.

Oh another thing: Should we have everyone just use something like Bootstrap or Foundation for styling? Or allow use of custom stuff/purchased themes?

Sure i'm in

dchuck. I say anything goes for styling, functionality is the most important.

No love for other DB? like mssql? I'm in if I can use asp.net w/ mssql

Edit: I should learn to read. I'm In

I assume frameworks, like MVC or rails are acceptable.

Yep, absolutely anything and everything at your disposal is acceptable. No rules or limitations.

And yeah, scrap the database limitations in the specs. As long as it works, and can handle a good amount of data, that's all that matters.

So I take it this means you're in?

sooo... what is the task? not the specs provided, right?

Yep, the specs provided. Unless you want to be a nice guy, and write up a quick set of specs like that for us. ;)

Just a few simple sentences like that, and send it to us at the same time. Nothing else required from you. What do ya say?

EDIT: Sorry, or did you mean you're in, and want to develop as well?

I will be arranging my next move (to Edinburgh) on Saturday, so I guess I have to sit this one out.

Maybe I'll do it outside of the competition sometime next week and post it here.

nope, I am not in... just providing the specs so far ahead of time is kinda counterproductive, or is it not?

No, if you don't mind, let's not do the 8 hours within a week thing, because a) let's not drag this out, and b) it's impossible to track. Am I supposed to submit a time sheet with the project, or something? Did you want to increase it to 48 hours? That's fine with me if it's better for you.

Oh another thing: Should we have everyone just use something like Bootstrap or Foundation for styling? Or allow use of custom stuff/purchased themes?

Doesn't matter, and use whatever is at your disposal. If you have a membership to some design site with loads of themes, or want to drop $40 at ThemeForest, or want to just use basic & raw HTML, up to you. I'm agreed with nickCR though, design shouldn't matter so much. If anything, ensuring the templates can be easily modified by a designer should be the important part.

Alright, then when are you available? dchuk also said "sometime next week", so I'm guessing he's not available this weekend either. What day you available? We'll move it to then.

Yes, very counter productive, but I don't know of any other trustworthy WF members with project management experience who won't be competing, plus dchuk and mattseh don't seem to mind, so we'll work with what we have.

Or is there by chance any qualified member with project management experience willing to write up a quick bullet point list of specs, then send them to us at the same time? Just so none of us know what we're developing until the clock starts ticking. If so, please reply here or drop me a PM.

If the spec posted before can be agreed on, I'm game.

It might be easiest for everyone on Saturday to just make a reply to this thread to start their 24 hour clock. and then they have to post the URL and Archive of the project before the time is up to stay in the game... thoughts?
