The homepage of my site has been sitting around spot ~20 in google, for my main keyword, for a couple months. All of the sudden today, I noticed that it doesn't rank ANYWHERE in google for my main keyword. It only made up ~10-15% of my overall traffic, and inner pages are still ranking fine. It's a real e-commerce site, not thin, not low quality, lots of in-depth content on inner pages.

I'm trying to figure out what might be going on. Here's some relevant info:

Links:

Lots of PBN links (from people here), review blogger links (real people on blogspot and their own domains with real blogs), and some other hodgepodges of links.

Search Console / Webmaster Tools:

Nothing listed in manual actions. As of the 14th (two days ago), search console reported a ranking of 20 for the main keyword. That's as recent as I can see in there.

Index Status:

Site seems to be indexed like normal, I am ranked #1 for my brand name. I even get site links for a brand name search.

Any idea what could be going on? Ever seen fluctuations where keywords disappear off the map completely and then re-appear?

When keywords disappear completely off the map and magically re-appear, how long has it taken for you to see them re-appear? A day, a week?

With this update: More commonly a day or a few days. Sometimes a week.

Even without this update I have keywords which disappear and reappear in weeks, but its not often.

Looks like some of the PBN domains got deindexed, but not all.

Still nothing in manual actions for WMT/search console.

I've read that some people just used new anchor text, and created more links. Perhaps that's the solution regardless what the cause was.

Another odd thing is that in search console, I see that my reported rank for the keyword has remained the same (#20) but the impressions/clicks went down to nearly zero. That doesn't make sense.

It doesn't need to show on the console. Loss of links = negative velocity.
