the golden ratio is the only number in existence, where if you square it, it just adds one, but if you raise it to the -1 power, it subtracts 1. i.e.:

1.618...^2 = 2.618..

1.618^(-1) = 0.618...

the occurrence of the golden ratio in nature (space, earth, animals, etc) is what makes a lot of scientists believe in *some* form of higher being.
 
Check out the movie PI. I don't remember if they reference the Fibonacci sequence, but it's about using divine math to predict market trends. Cool stuff.

It gets quite a bit of use in the stock market, especially technical analysis. Look at Fibonacci Levels.
 
I wrote a program last yr in CS lab that recursively calculated Fibonacci numbers up to the nth term in the sequence. It will bog down quickly as the number of operations explode, but what was cool about it was that if you take the ratio from the execution time from one term to the next, it would approach the golden ratio the higher the numbers got.

Sunflowers, which have opposing spirals of seeds, have a 1.618 ratio between the diameters of each rotation. Still don't believe it? Need something that's easily measured? Try measuring from your shoulder to your fingertips, and then divide this number by the length from your elbow to your fingertips. Or try measuring from your head to your feet, and divide that by the length from your belly button to your feet. Are the results the same? Somewhere in the area of 1.618? The golden ratio is seemingly unavoidable.
 
Wow, amazing movie, i have just become the fan of it. Discovered this movie at the right time, i will play that in my management class presentation. hope to get good grades
