After being a lazy fucker and just setting up Blogger blogs I'm just about to move over to WP. I used it a few years ago but was just too lazy to get back into it this time!

I know there's a lot of guys here using WordPress and I value your opinions so I'd really appreciate any tips anyone here has on the best plugins, templates, layouts, etc.

What do you consider essential? (For a main site/blog and quick throw-up sites.)

Here's a chance to show off your knowledge and provide some useful info to peeps (like me) new to WP! :D

Wordpress is both super easy and fun to play around with, so many different things its hard to tell you where to start. I'll assume you've got wordpress installed somewhere or you at least have it on your localhost so you can install and play around with the templates and such.

Essential and non-essential plug-ins I would recommend would be the following:

AutoMeta - Handy if your lazy and works quiet well for keywords on different posts.

Dagon Design Form Mailer - Good if you need a quick form for your customers to send you an email through. (Non-Essential)

FireStats - This one is half and half, it tracks a bunch of different things but really is only good to see how many visits overall & in the last 24 hours.

Google Sitemap Generator - This one explains itself, super easy and handy tool, should be essential.

Related Posts - This plug works quiet well if you plan on having the blog up for awhile with a lot of posts.

SEO Title Tag - Essential even if its only one post. Also Stephan Spencer made this thing cross-compatible with the Ultimate Warrior Tags.

Ultimate Warrior Tags - If your getting the SEO title tags, grab this up as well they work hand in hand quiet well.

Spam Karma 2 - If you don't feel like using the stock Alchemist plug-in then this is another good spam protection.

WP Cache - Essential little bugger for any purpose, why spend more bandwidth then you have too but be careful and empty it if you make changes to your template otherwise your changes might not work right away and you'll be sitting around pissed off nothing is working.

Sociable - A super good social network plugin, you see all those little icons at the end of jons blog well this is what he uses........quiet good for easy submissions to the social networks.

Thats it for plug-ins but I've got to leave for an hour or so right now, I'll be back to post some more WP goodies here but for now let me know if any of the links fail, I'll re-link them, I haven't tested those location out in awhile.

Alright so now you'll need some themes to mess around with so here are some links, I know I posted these links in another thread awhile back but nontheless here they are I've even got a new source lol.

themesBase.com
WP Theme Viewer
WP Theme Park
Theme Porter
Free Themes
Alex King | Denver Web Developer
Kaushal Sheth
83 Additional WP Themes

I'm not going to give up my favorite source though but that should get you started, my favorite source has a lot of good ones, I'm sure a ton of people know about it like Jon, who also uses that particular source for his blogs theme. :)

Cheers for that guys!

For anyone else in the same situation I found this which explains how to import to WordPress from Blogger (not as easy as it once was, but still not very hard really!):

Import Blogger Beta Posts to WordPress | TechCounter - TechNews, Money & SEO

Those plugins will be very useful cheers! Just going to check out those themes.

Is Adsense Manager fine - or are there better Adsense plugins?
Nice plugin find, adsense has been a bitch to deal with across multiple blogs.

I also found this last night: WPAds « theSandbox
Its pretty good for ad management, I haven't used anything like this from WP before so I don't know if there are better alternative.
