Hey guys ---

I know that DMOZ isn't what it used to be for SEO, but I would still like to get one of my more reputable sites in there.

This site has been around for a long time, is genuinely a good site and actually deserves to be in the directory, but it is pretty hard to actually get a hold of one of the moderators as this directory gets more and more prehistoric by the day (as most directories are in general). I had one dude off of craigslist offer to get me in there for a ridiculous amount of money, which I laughed at. I'm willing to pay something fair, whoever can make this happen shoot me an offer.

How much was the ridiculous amount of money?

A thousand bucks or something...I would rather spend my 1G here on various services than the stupid DMOZ link, but I still want it.

I mean, do you think that is a ridiculous amount of money for that particular link??? Or am I stingy LOL???

Thanks bro! I mean the biz can afford it, but sometimes it just comes down to the principal of getting ripped off by some jackass...guess I have my pride and don't like to see it being insulted :)

True, and I'm aware of that --- but usually DMOZ editors know other DMOZ editors. So if any given editor knew one in the section I'm looking for they would get a finders fee :pimp:

DMOZ editors can only edit specific categories, so even if you did find one you wouldn't be able to insert your link.

Just send in the information and then forget about it.

Yeah afford it or not, you can get a TON more for your money spending a G on links. DMOZ is a name, if you get a link good, but it won't make or break your site.

I couldn't agree with you more, but my site has a really good backlink profile in terms of diversity in combination with age...and I would just like to add the DMOZ domain to it's link profile. If it never happens, I agree that it's not going to break my site.

yea, I would have to agree aswell. I think that paying for DMOZ is over rated... DMOZ has seriously lost its "creditability" over the past few years... its not as important as it use to be... nice to have, but.... thats about it. For $1k.... I'd laugh him away too... and maybe tell him to F***'em

Those who hate on Dmoz never had a dmoz link..

Dmoz is the fucking shit if your link sticks.
Also a Dmoz link with few other links will still get you a PR 4. Which means Google still has a little line of code in its massive codelib even if PR doesn't mean shit.

Case Study: Bought a dmoz listed domain. It was under a "Sports" category.. Some Very uncommon Sport.
I added images of sports cars, and with no other link building, the site started ranking for all sorts of sports cars models. That is dmoz for you.

Also google directory still uses the Dmoz dump. And a bunch of other nice directories.

I would still give an Arm for a dmoz listing. Not for EMD-MFAs, because they won't get listed anyway, or at least not for long anyway. But for bigger sites, it is a "good to have". And all links are good right?
But, how much is it worth? I still think the yahoo yearly fee is worth it.. so go figure.
Cheers!!

Well, considering I met the dude on Craigslist it most likely was a scam!

Appreciate your input. While I don't think that the DMOZ will make or break a site it sure is good to have the trusted DMOZ domain in your link profile. And like you said, pretty much all links are good. The only ones I really wouldn't want to have are the gambling/viagra/prescription links. But even if those were to get your site in trouble, then everybody would be dropping these links on their competitors. So really, I think that it's only fair for big G to ignore these "bad neighborhoods".

The thing with DMOZ is its taking so dam long to approve a submission. Paying a few hundred dollars for a DMOZ link isn't worth it IMO.
