Very long domain name = penalty?

During my keyword research tonight, I've come upon a couple seemingly great keywords with nice search volume and available EMDs... the only thing about them is that they're beyond longtail; they're like uberlongtails (5-6 words).

I'm always a little leery when nice keywords have EMDs available, especially the .coms (and both of these do) - so I wondered, does Google somehow penalize really long domain names? I can't figure out any other reason why these domains wouldn't be taken.

Sorry for the lack of bare breasts; I've been slacking on updating my boob collection.

EDIT: Well nevermind: just a minute ago they had 5-6k monthly searches, but I signed out of Google and back in and suddenly they have like ~30 monthly searches (and yes I had "exact" checked). Though I guess this would still be a good thing to know.

EDIT2: Alright, it turns out I herped, then I derped, then I even managed to herp again.

I've never had a problem with long domains ranking. I don't make it a habit to buy them due to the "who is going to remember that long of a domain?" factor, but for a few random sites, it's worth testing out.

For example, I have a four-word domain with three hyphens in it that has always seemed to rank alright. Even got a PR5 back when I was updating it. And right now I'm actually testing out a nine-word domain name (granted a couple of the words are "a" and "it") to see how that goes.

It's good to be leery though because what happened to you herping with the keyword tool derping could happen again.

3-4 words or less. Long domain names don't carry the same EMD boost short domain names do.

Geez, 9 words? I'd be interested to see a case study about that.

My herp was that I had added an additional word into the keyword - I got mixed up and put "how to make my computer start faster" instead of "how to make my computer faster".

Good to know!

As mentioned above, there's also the factor of getting people to remember your site's name. EMDs are good but if no one can remember the keyword exactly because it's too long, having the EMD doesn't help as much. I don't think Google or other search engines directly penalize longer domain names (until they get ridiculous, anyway) but I don't think it's a good business plan.

I seem to remember seeing warnings about phishing being related to very long URLs as well. It might scare off some customers if they've seen those types of warnings before, too.

Hello.

I belive 4 words is max. I have some domains with 5-7 words and they dont rank good.

Unrelated words? Or a fixed expression?
For example the fixed term: federalrepublicofgermany
With or without hyphens? With Hyphens it would be quicker to recognize (eg on a poster or flyer), or not?
Or more briefly: germanrepublic?
But that would be not the official name (in this example of the country).

I know that you could take both. But this is not the question.

This is my best bet as well...
2 month's ago I created 6 new minisites.. used Keywords in the domain name as well..

4 of them have 3-4 KW.. now ranking on 1st-2nd page of google...

1 of them has 5 keywords "youtube free downloader free download"
That shit didn't rank even for 1 keyword.. and I target 10 KW per site

the other one has a 6 KW still nowhere to be found on the target KW..

Now all the sites have the same backlinks.. Dripped backlinks. Same format, 100% score on SEpressor.. same article writer, same theme and same Plugins.

I have had success with 5+ word domain names. They are actually the most automated out of all of my sites because the competitions are much lower - I dont have to do as much to maintain #1 rankings.

I've had good success with 4-6 word domain names. But I have one thats 7 words but it really got very high in the rankings..

I'm interested to see if anyone else has had an expereince with etrmeley long domain names and how they rank aswell..

The most I've ever had is a 4word EMD

I'm interested in seeing how this plays out.

I might create a test site for an easy keyword and see how well I can rank it andhow fast

posting in a Shinobi thread where he's considering not one but two EMDs.

mind = blown

also, why are you showing me pictures of girls in their underwear who are still wearing braces?
