This was a MUCH bigger incident than Peter McKay made it out to be.
Russia wants full arctic control. End of story. The only country in it's way is Canada. If the conservatives can ever get their shit together enough to get a majority expect a major missile defense system in the north.
(there's already a growing army communications network up there to try and better intercept Russian air crafts and subs. won't hear that on CBC or CTV though.)
Also, my prediction is that Russia will make a major move -- probably invading a bordering country or putting into place a much bigger missile "defense" system in the north-east -- within the next 5-10 years. Major US-Russia tension again except this time Canada will be more involved (read: scared).
