I'm hoping someone will be good enough to help me understand how to use sim cards to be able to phone (sms) verify accounts. I understand the concept - that you swap out sim cards to get a new number to submit and you get that sms or voice call to your phone on the new number, but here's where I'm lost... (I'm in the U.S. btw, fwiw)
First I have to get an 'unlocked' GSM phone. No problem. Let's say I get a no-contract phone from one of the many providers. Then I need to "activate" it, which let's say is $35. I start using the phone to verify accounts until I'm unable to use that number anymore...
I was under the impression that people were just popping a new (super cheap/ebay) sim card in their phone, which created a new number, and they carried on creating accounts. But the thing is, with a new number, don't you have to activate it for $35 again? And on and on... at $35/pop, and for a handful of PVAs, that doesn't make sense (I don't even know how many times a number can be used. Virtual numbers like Twilio, if they work at all, seem to only be good for one verif. My personal cell phone worked for many, though stretched out over a long period of time where I was only using it as a last resort)
Clearly I'm missing something here. I suspect that it's just not as simple as I originally thought, else getting PVAs would be pretty dang easy. Then again, lots of people are selling them, and it seems (from what I've read), many use this 'sim swapping' technique to get them.
If someone could give a thick-headed techno-dork a bit of help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
