True Detective

What was that?

Way too many people in the story line..

They aren't finding creepy/bat-shit weird anymore, just all business related stuff/talk.

Female actor ruins the script. (Was way better with the two men who didn't suck on robot dicks.)

Younger guy just wants to get back on his bike.

Only interesting guy just got birdman'd.

No story telling going back and forth in time, like in S1.

No nudity, or tits. Just a fake blow job and artwork of women.

...

Should have been these two teaming up like in S1, with a different story line:

Feels like they are going in a different direction and trying to re-invent the wheel.

Way too many characters investigating over 1 death that interlinks everyone somehow, and cluster fucks everyone over somehow.

Wait a couple more weeks, then a lot of the stuff in these first few episodes will start making sense.

I believe killer is a vigilante, very particular about selecting victims and how they are killed.

Well yeah, it's a series based on the detective story anthology, so every season is going to be different. Everyone wants more of the same as S1, but that's not going to happen, so they need to get over it and enjoy this story for its unique characteristics.

Personally I think the weakest of the three main characters is the woman.

She feel shoehorned in so her and Colin Farrell can get freaky to prove Colin isn't also gay when the young motorcycle cops is revealed to be in the closet.

Spoilers, for anyone that hadn't already realized he is gay after 2 episodes of them beating us over the head with the "he's in the closet" stick.

Personally I think he (the young motorcycle cop) is the one that will lose his shit. They make Colin and the chick seem on edge/lose cannons, with Colin beating the father and her being freaky in the bedroom/using police resources to stop her sister being a whore, but if they are taking the "short cut to story writing" the motorcycle cop will be the one that snaps from not being able to show himself for who he is and severely beat/murder someone.

And if I was to guess I would say it would be the guy they are chasing, episode 5 and he (the motor cycle cop) snaps, kills the killer and Colin and the woman (who have both shown to be corrupt) shrug and cover it up.

Job well done!

Fast forward 5 years or so, and the rest of the season is all three of them realizing that they fucked up and killed the wrong guy and trying to sort it out.

I like this season as much as the first, but I have a sinking feeling this is where they get lazy and go screen writing 101 on the story.

To early to tell and even if they do I still like the show.

I like how they are handling the relationship between Frank and Velcoro. In the first episode, they almost seem like old friends, but in episode 2 we see that is definitely not the case.

I just want to point out those could be scenes for flashbacks. Not denial or anything, but they keep making references to the past and big events that happened earlier. We'll find out next episode though.

Anyone notice the new trend in TV of killing off a main character quickly? I could be totally wrong but I don't think that was done a lot before. House of Cards, Game of Thrones, etc.

I'm not really sure where/how the "occult" stuff will play into this season. Sure, the animal heads on the walls and on the shotgun-guy were cool........ but the story is setting this up to be one about money/corruption. Not really sure how you get from a corrupt city to creepy occult status.......which is what made the first season so eerie and desirable to watch.

Right now, it's just an OK story about several people hitting brick walls in their life while an unknown party is doing some fucked up shit. Definitely doesn't have that creepy dispair/hopelessness vibe.

Looks like the Birdman blows his chest off, not sure if he can survive through that

Why would you even doubt that? Collin is main actor and character and most obviously he will be present during the whole season.

In fact knowing who is the main actor is a disadvantage to us - we certainly know that he will be ok and we lose that supposed excitement wondering if he would survive or not. We do not wonder, we know :)

He would have aimed at his head the second shot if he wanted to kill him. Probably just wanted to incapacitate long enough to get away.

The writer never intended for the occult stuff to be such a big deal in season 1, it was more something the fans jumped on because the director did put an emphasis on photography. He sorta joked about putting some occult symbols into season 2.

I don't think it will have a lot of importance to the story, but if you're looking for some just for the hell of it, look to Horus. In the battle with Seth, there is some weird sexual stuff between them, then Horus loses an eye, and may or may not have killed Seth:

The Contendings of Horus and Seth

Eyes are very important to this season's story- the title sequence is dedicated to opening eyes and seeing in the dark, but probably nothing to do with Egyptian mythology; more like looking at a person and seeing their true self.

Yeah, it is the way for a lot of shows now. I think it's even becoming more commonplace to not even let the actors know they're going to die until they arrive on set the day of. It keeps them on their toes and acting like they probably should be if their character's lives are on the line all the time. Boardwalk Empire must have killed off close to 20 main characters over the 5 seasons.

doesn't compute, especially the 1st pic where it seems to indicate a CHP officer (taylor kitsch) and a vinci detective (colin) working together on the same team. As far as we know, these 2 cops weren't acquianted at all until they were thrown together recently.

dang..that downtown shootout happened tonight (see leaked photos from my earlier post). was pretty intense. :smokin:

That was definitely an attempt to recreate a similar "intense" scene like the biker gang scene from last season. It was cool, but definitely nowhere near as captivating.

Honestly, this whole season just kind of reminds me of a very watered down version of the movie Heat.

Edit: This is not to say it's completely awful. It's more entertaining than a lot of what's going on with television right now.

The freeze frame at the end was pretty cool. They did the same thing last year at the end of episode 3 (Reggie Ledoux with the gas mask). The shootout was all right, usually don't see bystanders getting killed like that on a TV show. I think this episode will be better on a second viewing, after knowing what happens in the next 4.
