The Golden Rule?

There is hardly a difference between wishing suffering or performing aggression and violence on an animal, and turning a blind eye to it while saying "who cares?"

The people who care are those can sympathize and empathize and think "damn, that would suck if that happened to ME. I suspect that other creature doesn't like it either."

They have emotions, nervous systems, are capable of feeling and expressing pain.
