It was Limbaugh, wasn't it? I remember it clearly now. He used to call just about everyone brainwashed fools. Liberals, of course, but also libertarians, gays, pro-choicers, the British, teachers, the Ozzies, hippies, communists, all minorities, socialists, the French and of course the Chinese... Even women; (or at least his favorite perrenial target the "feminazis") and just about every last 'group' out there that didn't think his shit smelled like roses...
He coined that term then, back during the birth of 'talking points' themselves... He said all these brainwashed folks should be used as the "useful Idiots" that they are, and he had more than a few reasons and ways to use them.
Despite your insistence that I'm some kind of Libtard, HB, I was once a "Dittohead." It was during my university years, mainly because I was raised a very staunch conservative repugnican.
My family donated tens of thousands every year to repug candidates and I got to meet them all. Bohner, Alexander, Fred Thompson, even GHW Bush. I've shaken all their hands and it was among them I met Rush, speaking at the 1994 NRA convention in the Opryland Hotel. -He signed my copy of "The way things Ought to Be" and told me that our country could use a lot more smart people in my generation, just like me.
Of course, since then, I realized that
all of those groups couldn't be brainwashed, and eventually realized that _I_ was the brainwashed one.
