^ Isn't this a Miller Lite commercial?
if you were responding to my post, i have never watched that miller lite commercial, i live in india.
-------------------------

we used to have a dog as pet and when it died (i was about 13 or 14 years old) for a couple of months i felt sad whenever it came into my thoughts. i used to go to the place where it was buried and spent some time there.

it's kind of emotional stuff to dog owners, you can't let your pet die like that over some stranger and at the same time you can't let a human die!! but the more you are attached to your dog the more the chances that the dog is given first preference.

who would you save your human family member (son/ daughter/ wife etc) or animal family member (dog etc)?? and the reason for your choice. i am curious to know your answer in this case.

one more question is;

you and your dog are drowning and one of your family member is in dilemma as to who to save

then who would you ask him to save yourself or the dog?

i think, the above two questions would prove to you that the value of human life is more than an animal's life!

Ive attached a picture of my dog to show you how amazingly cool he is. In all seriousness, if I had to choose my wife or my dog I would choose my wife every time. If it was a stranger or my dog, it would be my dog every time. As others have mentioned, many people treat their dog as a family member, and I feel no differently.

For instance, we have been looking at moving for some time, however we passed on several places because of the lack of a fenced in back yard. This would only be for our dog, as this is something he truly enjoys.

Im sure you are going to ask why I would choose my wife over my dog, and I would imagine this would be the cause with a lot of family pets: My dog would be more concerned about saving my wife's life than his own, which he has proved over and over again in his short time with us. He has stepped in front of dogs 5x his size just to protect my wife, and has shown that his life comes second to that of my wife's. He values our lives much more than his own.

The only people that should even be voting are Dog Owners or they're not going to understand the choice. Dogs are extremely intelligent and have a huge range of real emotions and loyalty. They don't act on just instinct alone.. that's a damn myth propagated by those who wish there was some kind of true separation between humans and animal (religion).

As a dog owner I'd choose my dog.

Uncensored pic. Put it up.

Ok listen up.

The reason we're all bickering like bastards here is because of the question itself and the context of the question.

e.g. I picture myself in the water, equally distant from both my dog and a stranger, both of them on their last breath before they sink and drown.

To the guy who says "I would swim to the dog and ignore the stranger" - yea you're a dick.

Most of us would try and rescue BOTH of course, at least I would.

Again, the question itself is plagued. It needs to be structured so it's based not on the need to save someone/something drowning, but on a pure moral choice.

e.g. You're in a chair with a gun to your head, a door opens, your dog comes out. Another door opens, a strange lady comes out with a gag over her mouth. The man in black walks up to you and says "CHOOSE WHO LIVES". Now what?

Instead of your dog and a stranger drowning, you are. You are taking your last breath, who would you expect to save YOU; your loyal dog or a random stranger? I would bank on my dog every time, especially if it meant that saving me would put my dog/stranger's life at risk also.

I thought of this too, and really this question is flawed too. Because unfortunately if you choose the dog you'll get severe societal blowback. In other words you'd be featured on every news station, like the bailout-boy recently, as the mother fucker who let the human die over the dog.

But w/out any negative consequences I'd still choose the dog.

Well said

Okay if we're turning it around to prove a point.

Instead of your dog and a stranger drowning, you and a random dog are. You are taking your last breath and are struggling to stay above the water with your last efforts. How would you feel if that stranger saved his loyal dog instead of you?

Dying there knowing that a dog is more worth than your life would be a very sad last thought.

I have actually have saved my dog from drowning. I know this is a thought question, but thought I'd share.

I love that damn dog like a family member. But he decided it would be a good idea to go chasing after a bird, then swim out half a mile+ into a lake after it. He was a speck on the horizon. For real.

We started calling after him. Finally he turned around but started bobbing up and under the water. Uh oh.

I am not a good swimmer, but my lady is. So we go tear assing into the water, she's in a full length dress, and we go after our dog. I make it about half way and can't go on more than a paddle. It really sucked to not get to him faster.

She gets to him first. The dog's all sputtering and kinda latches on. I make it out to them to try and help. He climbs onto me and I start floating him to shore.

I know dogs are good swimmers, and I thought my dog was, but he really just went too far out. Simple as that.

So to answer your question: I'd do my best and figure it out when I got out to the stranger and the dog. Physically, your body would shit out and you could easily end up drowning too. Drowning people kick and claw and bring you down too. Dogs too.

From a purely moral point of view, I might have to choose my dog. Purely selfish reasons for that, but I would be wracked with guilt either way. I'd feel an obligation to help out the fellow human, but at the expense of what I consider a family member? Damn.

that's one cute puppy!

you are not seriously one-legged burger, are you?? seriously!!
haha, great one!
Again, the question itself is plagued.
the purpose of the question is to test your @#$%^&* (here @#$%^&* = your moral duty as a human (??), your attachment to your dog (??), to probably test what kind of person you are (??) ... or all of those are wrong. actually it's a question where you can't blame either side, where you can't tell "the stranger choice is right" or "the dog choice is right". it's more of a personal favorite kind of question. and everybody has the right to choose their own option and can't be blamed whatever their choice is.
e.g. You're in a chair with a gun to your head, a door opens, your dog comes out. Another door opens, a strange lady comes out with a gag over her mouth. The man in black walks up to you and says "CHOOSE WHO LIVES". Now what?
your question is not at all different than the original question; the original has "you can only save one" meaning you can't save both and probably would lose your life too in your attempt ... making the situation even worse because if you save either one of them, then there would be only one death and if you attempt to save them both, you will drown too, making it 3 deaths, lol.

and your question has "gun to your head".

Why would I save a stranger over my dog? What, just because it's a human means the life is more valuable than my dog? Fuck that.

You don't know shit about this human stranger, they could be a killer, child molester, or just an all around bad person.

My dog? My dog is none of those things. My dog protects my house, protects me, loves me, and is always happy to see me.

Just because you're human doesn't mean your life is automatically more valuable than some other animals life, there are 6 billion people on earth so you're going to have to have something better than "but I'm human" if I'm gonna choose you over my dog whom I know and love.

'nuf said, thread can be closed

The dog has clearly won this. My work is done here.

FYI: I don't really have a dog but I love trolling.
it's not about winning here! it's more of a personal favorite kind of question like "coke or pepsi". but the only thing you have to take into account is "a human life at stake". it's kind of a question of your humanity, how much you love other humans kind of stuff, but you can't blame the "i save my dog" guys because that's what they like to see alive between the two.

we are all seriously discussing this stuff like it's 2012 end of world and you are trolling!! +rep to you and wickedjoe for his awesome
Option 3: Get out a video camera and record them all drowning for future jerk off material.
