Pokemon cards

I beat a 25 year old way-too-old-to-be-there guy nicknamed "God" at a tournament

Urza to MD5 then a bit of time spiral.

High point was winning a pre release tourney and at one point ranking 4 in my region on DCI.

Had a full set of revised duals at one stage.

Sold most they money cards but still have a few hiding away somewhere :)

I started out with DnD, but it took too much time to play one little adventure and I didn't stick with it very long... Too much like homework!

Then in my high school we generally made fun of those playing MTG... and we all played the Star Wars CCG when they weren't looking. ;p

SWCCG, now THERE is a card game... You had to be damn clever to win some of those space battles with all of the attrition points eating away at you.

I even went to a huge SWCCG competition held at DragonCon back in the mid '90s just to see what it was like... Damn there was an auditorum set up with 20,000 nerds all with better decks than mine... Didn't stay in it long at all.

Oh yeah, as for MTG, I was given a black Lotus (is that the right one?) card once in a sleeve, around 1992, had no idea how valuable it was and next year someone offered me $100 for it... Sadly I lost it by then. Arrgh.

Wow.

^Wow, really close then... If you say so. Must've gotten it really early then.

Was MTG like SW CCG in that they had a boarder color or something that shows you if it was a "collectable series" versus just a common card?

I played primarly control decks (U/W, 5color control, U/W/B). I use to piss the fuck out of people back in the day with statis / kismet combos with a serra beat down (During black summer). My all time favorite control deck was one I designed my self around tradewind rider / limited resources.

I had a few Magic cards because a few friends played and it seemed interesting. I don't know what edition but I had some Ice series cards.

We were generally big gamer nerds growing up. We played anything and everything. Lots of roll playing (D&D, Twilight 2000, Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, Warhammer), board games (Succession Wars, Battletech, Bloodbowl, Spacehulk, Dark Future), and then Warhammer Fantasy and 40k and other table top wargaming (Micro Armor, Napoleonics, Car Wars). I even worked in one of the Games Workshop retail stores for a year around 1991 painting miniatures and playing everything they made.

This kid with stinky as fuck feet (fuck you Zach) in middle school gave me free magic cards. I thought it was kinda cool, never played it ought.

lol oh yeah

we were into warhammer for a while but never played

my best friends older brother said we couldnt play until we painted all our figures so we spent a full month painting them and never finished

needless to say nobody ever played a single game

^^^^ old school, nice. My brother once stole a complete collection of dual lands, someone had in a uncanny case.

Yeah Quitting was easy, especially because Texas Hold'em blew up right around when i quit. Hold 'em is a mans game, was an easy transition.

Something that happened in 2003 is now "old school"?

2003 is almost yesterday.

I used to collect cards and comics. Got some magic cards once and was like WTF is this all about!? Too much like hard work for me.
