The start of the Ron Paul 2012 movement

lol Consider me bamboozled.

No apology necessary. I'm with guerilla on this one. Paul ain't running to win.

He's got a lot of great ideas, but to be quite frank he doesn't have the gall or personality to execute them. Foreign ministers would walk all over him... then again that's if RP even chose to deal/talk with them- he preaches isolationism. I'm for a lot of libertarian values but isolationism isn't one of them- We need to have a tough foreign policy. That also doesn't mean we need to invade other countries etc etc iraq blah blah- I'm talking economically. Ron Paul suffers from an underdog complex- Just because you're the underdog with a fervent following doesn't mean you're the best person for the job or your ideals are best for our country.

...and let me underscore that with the fact that I was the BIGGEST RP kool-aid drinker in '08. Watched every single video of him, trotted down to vote for him in the primary, watched him in the debates- that's when I started to realize this guy's just not right for the job- Half the time he would fall back on talking points completely unrelated to the topic, wavered whenever he was challenged by an opponent (you could see him visually get flustered), and again defaulted on 'abolish the fed' talk when anyone brought up his radical (compared to the general population) libertarian views on welfare, social security and foreign policy. Trust me, I was all about RP- but found myself waking up and facepalming more often than not through the debates and primaries.

No he doesn't. Ain't gonna get into that one with you.

We may have to meet in the middle on that one. He's said time and again that he would never involve the US in foreign countries' internal affairs, no matter how 'seemingly' important- I take that to mean no intervention even in cases of peace-keeping missions, foreign aid (such as in Haiti), and relief for tsunami victims. He's been asked about issues similar to those in the past and he either dodges the question entirely, or would go against his own principles to say 'well, we may have to make some concessions'... just because he was in the middle of an election.

It's called non-interventionism not isolationism.

Never surrender ground! Kidding.

Here's a short piece by Paul on isolationism:

Exposing the True Isolationists by Ron Paul

He ends with this (SPOILER!):

To reset the debate in a way that reflects reality, it is important for us to reject the idea that the choice is between globalism and isolation. Instead we must stand firm for national sovereignty, constitutional republicanism and international cooperation. We should realize that America's current isolation is simply a consequence of globalism gone awry.
I'm not a fanboy of Paul. I appreciate his ideas. If someone said he raped kids, that would have nothing to do with his ideas on fiat currency.

I was all about RP in '08 as well but I find it harder and harder to give a shit about any of it. Have to think that the best someone like RP would be able to do is throw a small wrench in the machinery for a few years. Then they'd just fix it and keep on with business as usual. The IRS and the Fed aren't going anywhere. That's not exactly a vision to get excited about.

The U.S. is on the decline imo and I don't think there's really much to be done about it in the polls. The only vote I can see that carries any weight anymore is to vote with your feet and take your talents and cash elsewhere.

Speaking as one of those liberal pussies, I would disagree. All you have to do is watch one of his videos on the TSA or the wiki leaks, realize you've never heard a politician who speaks logically and reasonably, how appealing that is and you've got em!

Besides, I've said it before, there's a huge liberal niche out there like me that are really concerned about the Right and their need to squish personal liberties but are also concerned with the financial problems that surround this country. (Socially liberal, Fiscally Conservative) Ron Paul fits that niche.

Sounds like you aren't a liberal Lala. You're a libertarian.

liberal libertarian is what i call myself. I feel like I have to differentiate being in texas. As you're probably aware, the typical "texas libertarian" is usually just sheep in libertarian clothing: They enjoy the thought of "succeeding from the union" and "telling the goverment to fuck themselves" but only when there's a democrat in the whitehouse. As long as it's a republican like Bush or Romney, they're happy.

There's always Left Libertarianism. It's all Non-Aggression(which is where Liberals/Libertarians collide), just with different areas of emphasis.

Yeah I'm not down with that shit either.

Ron will be speaking at the TEA Party Patriots rally on Saturday at 2:00 pm MT. There will be a straw poll, and a ton of fanfare regarding the results.

Folks around the country can watch the whole event, including Ron's speech, online for $10 through Tea Party Patriots American Policy Summit , and online participants will be allowed to vote in the Straw Poll. Romney's people are making a big push, so it is important we do our best.

We should have plenty of people on the ground (but if you are nearby, please show up), we have a chance to win this, but it's imperative we win the online straw poll!

The first nationally televised Republican presidential debate in the 2012 election cycle will be held on May 5, 2011. Because of this, it is imperative to showcase Ron Paul as the leading frontrunner in the race. On May 5, 2011, we will hold an online money bomb in support of Ron Paul for President 2012. A money bomb is a 24-hour fundraising event aimed at dramatically increasing funds for a specific candidate. In November 2007, Ron Paul raised more than $4.2 million in a single day. In December 2007, Ron Paul raised the most money in the history of American politics in a single day, raising more than $6 million; a record that still holds strong to this very day.

Please invite your friends, and tell them that it is essential that we all donate to Ron Paul on May 5, 2011, in preperation for the first nationally televised Republican presidential debate for 2012.

The money bomb will likely be held on Ron Paul's official campaign website, which will be linked here once it is created. For now, please visit LibertyPAC.com, and consider making a donation before the official money bomb.
