The recipe for a $200K per year job

Great thread, I've also thought of similar ideas (as I mentioned in the 100k thread).

What do you guys think about niche's that have already been covered in your area? Is there any point competing or is it best to just move on to another?

For example, a lot of restaurant directories have already established themselves in New Zealand. Restaurants seem like the best niche to me because they're a service which people actively search on Google for (i.e. you would rarely need to find another doctor or dentist once you've got one, therefore search maybe once, but you're always looking for new restaurants).

So would it be wise to capitalise on niche's which are re-searchable? Seems like I've got a bit of brainstorming to do.

I guess I just answered my own question but it would be sweet to hear a few more opinions on that. Cheers!

^^^Once again Kimbo, much thanks!! I really appreciate your help so far.

Just a note, I've got about 6 pages that are ready to be leased for this month. I'm starting to sell on Monday. Considering I have no sales/cold calling experience I am kind of nervous about it, but my girlfriend has said she is willing to help cold call, so we will see how it goes. I will keep everyone updated!

PS: Do you think business owners will be more receptive to a female cold caller?

cold calling - Google Search

And if his girl is interested, having her cold canvass will be many times more effective than anything he could do. Not saying to do anything trashy. Just have her dress well and take information to your targeted businesses. Might be a good follow up to the ones you cold call that seem like they're on the fence.

I've been in outside sales most of my life and, oddly, I've found the best results I get for cold canvassing are when I'm just out shopping with my wife. I'm more relaxed, the business owner isn't on guard. A lot of casual conversations grow into arranging more formal meetings.

Plus, it's a good way to make your girl happy. Hooray for shopping.

Lol! I will definitely have to try that one.

The kids go back to school tomorrow so it's back to work for my wife. I'm having her distribute flyers locally. I believe if you are cold calling/canvassing it is ten times better to have a good looking female with a nice voice do that part just for the trust factor.

Before I was married, I would take a female rep from my company out with me just to tag along. My "conversion ratio" would at least double, and I just gave them 25% of each deal. The sale didn't typically happen on the spot (nature of the product), so they got their money without having to do anything more than get me in the door. I even did the talking. They literally had to do nothing but be there and not say anything stupid.

I was sure at least one of them would be offended at the nature of what I was asking them to do. Nope. Guess easy money wins over sensitivity to potentially sexist situations.

Great thread!

+rep to kimbo especially. Amazing contribution.

I'm not doing this, but I'm offering webdesign to local businesses and then outsourcing. Make a nice healthy profit per sale. My sites set up etc, and all ready for cold calling.

Does anyone have any tips? I've found some cold calling tips online, but they're mainly for people offering an alternative for their current supplier, as opposed to webdesign, which is a one off payment.

Any help'll be appreciated!

Thanks.

Small world..i came across unlockthegame earlier today and thought it looked pretty cool. thanks again :)

We've launched in sort of a 'proof of concept' way (get the rankings, make a couple sales) and now we're going full-bore next week. My partner's handling the sales staff side of it while i focus on software to make this very scalable :rasta:

I am currently working a full time job, so I can't go out and sell! However, I have a friend who is trying to do it and the problem he is having is he cant get ahold of any owners! Any advice?

Everyone is so tired of SPAM its hard to get the word out.

Use salesgenie.com* to get the names of business owners. Go into those businesses in person (scary, I know!) and have something compelling to say.

But really, this is why going into business for yourself is so profitable. It isn't easy.

*If you're really lucky and your library is awesome, they'll give card holders access to Reference USA, which is the free version of Sales Genie.

Are you targeting your local area and trying to make face to face sales calls? If so...

1. Get a nice fed/ex or ups envelope or something like this.
It needs to be an official looking large envelope.

2. Type a very short letter briefly introducing your service.
In that letter point out how much potential money per year a business owner can make using your service. In that letter offer a limited time offer of a free month of your service with a number to call you to get it started.

3. Put the letter in the envelope

4. Goto the business and look for a "responsible" looking employee.

5. To employee... "Hi, I'm supposed to leave this for the owner.. What's his name? Yeah that's him. Give this to him please. Thanks"

That's it...

95% hit rate doing that. You'll always get the owners name so you can follow up if you need to. Sometimes the owner will be there and you can give em your spill. When you drop the letter off, be dressed respectably...
dockers, golf shirt at least.

There ya go....

Haha...that's pretty damn creative Kimbo.

I thought maybe I could just tie the letter to a brick and leave it on the counter. Put a post-it note on it saying how you wanted to save them a window and just walk it in.

That should get their attention (or succeed in letting your level of audacity piss them off )

Odd..i tried to reply to this yesterday and it never posted. anyhow....

Small world, i came across unlockthegame yesterday morning and thought it looked pretty cool. I passed it on to my partner who's handling the sales staffing side. LOL I'm starting to think "sales script consultant in xyzVille" would be a good niche to hit. I can't find anyone local in google.

Meanwhile, I'm working on software to make this very scalable :rasta:

Thanks again Kimbo :) If you're ever in the bay area, drinks are on me

Purchase Domains, then sell/lease?

Great discussion. Got some questions...

Can someone explain a little more about the top 10 search results? I understand the SEO/SERP stuff, but wondering if Vladi is talking about 10 purchased domain names that are optimized, or are they a mix of sub-domains and primary domains?

From what I gather this is what is needed:

10 niche websites
1 local listing directory (includes all niche websites listed)

Once the sites are listed, do you sell the domain names or lease?

details, details, details

Tks.
