this business model is, long term, one of the most brilliant ideas and greatest threats to personal liberty and open commerce ever conceived. it's also been going strong since roosevelt and is on track to replace "the state" within a generation or two, with the added bonus of internationality.

the real joke is what was actually said -- a 14 year old hangs himself following abuse in custody, but they're good with kids because they also run all the state schools in bradford.
it's a meaningless qualifier. at a glance it conveys the idea that they're qualified to handle kids in custody because they handle kids out of custody. this same logic can convey the idea that hedge fund managers are qualified to handle your money because they handle other people's money -- nevermind that the managers work for goldman sachs.
but yes, the brouhuhaho was a jab at the idea that a company -- by design and necessity being as efficient as possible -- that operates both prisons and schools will operate schools as prisons. which can lead into a whole 'nother level of jokedness because schools are essentially minimum-to-medium security prisons now.
The scariest part about this is that it is all enabled the the presence of a government. This would VERY RARELY occur in a free market economy.
