Surprisingly enough, not all young women suddenly become attractive on their 18th birthday so there is a HUGE difference between the two. Fortunately, most teenage girls have a natural repellant in the form of their retarded behavior and speech patterns which makes them far less attractive in real life.

It's the guy's responsibility to figure out how old she is, but if she's just hit puberty there are usually other indicators, as you mentioned, that's she's probably too young. If she specifically lied about her age or manipulated him and looked older I'd probably have more sympathy for the guy.
