To those of you living in Thailand..

Recently I've been researching how to become eligible for the one year non-immigrant visa as an American. I found a good amount of information online but a lot of it is contradicting. I'm curious if there's anyone out there WITH EXPERIENCE obtaining this (or a similar) visa that could provide insight.

I'm not necessarily interested in living there for years and years, but I'd like to have the option of staying for more than 60 or 90 days (or whatever the current tourist visa allows). Feedback from anyone with experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Why do so many IMers chose Thailand over other countries?

I thought we were supposed to make a lot of money and move to Monaco, am I doing it wrong?

No man, you're just a higher class white guy. Don't berate yourself for it.

Wherever else > beta white guys who like asian servantwives who'll never leave them. Or worse, since Thailand, home of ladyboys.

Have you ever been to Thailand? Please forgive me... In time, I would love nothing more than to be a troll that has nothing better to do than shit on peoples posts on internet forums. Give it time though, I'm new to this site.

Also PM Kiopa_Matt he is the resident expert on Thailand, he can also get you Visa's for various untrained animals.

No, I lived in Vancouver for 14 years. So I saw the thais that were lucky enough to escape thailand. And they're fucking ugly, sorry buddy. It's obviously a sore spot if you're the one who's baited by my generalization enough to try and defend Thailand trolol.

Beauty is relative, ya know? Personally the thought of chicks with dicks and adams apples get me pretty fired up. Especially in a place where no one knows me!

But seriously, I just want to visit the place with my fiance and see Southeast Asia (for more than 60 days) as it's one of the few regions we haven't seen. I'm not "baited by your generalization".. I'm just only interested in talking to those who have something valuable to say in regards to my post.

On another note, Vancouver's the shit. I was only there for a few days, but the food and scenery was pretty incredible.

I have been to Bangkok many many times, I cannot talk about other cities in Thailand, but BKK is really a nice city.

Pros:
- Cheap cost of living
- Good internet connection
- **Cheap** women
- Good transportation
- Nice weather (summer all year, not so humid like SG)
- Pretty safe environment apart from the recent bombing but that's another matter...
- Really good food, I love Japanese food in BKK
- The women can really suck cock
- And they swallow too
- Good medicals

Cons:
- Language (Thai is a shitty language to learn)
- You can't really mix with the locals, they aren't your friends
- Too many white trashs with local trashs (x equals to x, everywhere)
- edit: too many shemales, your shemale radar has to be strong to diff between them and real women
- edit: too many gays... i am really homophobic

Looking at the list of pros and cons, no wonder why so many IM-ers would love to live there...

steps to identify shemales:

- they are tall
- bigger frame than the local women
- they are pretty due to surgery
- boobs job
- men's nipples instead of female nipples (hard to explain this shit)
- their voice are male like (a few have feminine voice)

I know nothing about non-immigrant visas, only tourist visas. Usually you can get a double entry tourist visa in the Thai embassy of your home country- call them to check requirements and whether they do single, double or triple.

You can get up to date information at the Thai Visa forum. There is one guy with solid info- think he may be called ubonjoe or similar. The situation often changes e.g. they are clamping down on people hopping over the border every month instead of getting a visa and education visas have stricter requirements now.

If you go without a visa you will most likely get 30 days "visa exempt" on arrival, which can be extended a further 30 days. Then you can go to Laos to pick up a visa.

Each tourist visa is 2 months but can be extended a month at an immigration office. So a double will give you 6 months (from the date issued- so get it just before you leave). You will need to hop over into nearest country to activate next visa. You can then pop over to Laos to get a new double visa to make up the year.

or
There is a fairly new company offering a one year volunteer visa which also seems to be a work permit. It costs 32,000 Baht. It is a good deal and the guy running it seems legit (quite active in the Facebook Chiang Mai Digital Nomad group- they have these groups for different areas of the country). It does require a small amount of voluntary work, but that is well worth it to avoid border runs, queueing up for extensions and having to go to Laos. This only applies to Chiang Mai, but there may be similar things elsewhere: How to get a Non O Visa and Thai Work Permit in Chiang Mai

Feel free to pm me about any other questions you have. I have been in Chiang Mai over a year and can vouch for it as a good place to base yourself. It is so cheap that I can leave my apartment empty for months when traveling.

Thanks Wickedice and Qualo. And yea, I get it... there's a lot of desperate hookers and dudes dressing like chicks. However, I'm primarily interested in the food, culture, history, and traveling the Mekong River in search of elusive animals and heroin.

Also, I think I'm more interested in Chiang Mai than BKK. I haven't been to either, so I can't say for sure, but CM seems to be less hustle and a little more manageable. Ideally I just want to have a temporary base in Thailand so I can easily travel to neighboring countries.

Hey Qualo, what's your skype name?

Seems like a lot of IMers are having a hard time having sex with western women.
