Texas inmates to become instant millionaires

Just like anyone who makes a ton of money in a very short amount of time (see: lottery winners, PPC-Marketers) will invariably spend it all on useless stuff and may end up losing it all in a short time. Fast money doesn't last too long, you've gotta pace it.

If you read the article you would have noted that they get a lifetime annuity of some 50k a year for just that reason.

Based on how other things are done here in the Good Ole' US of A, I'm pretty sure they have to sign some sort of waiver that states they will seek no further action in exchange for the monies they are receiving.

So further suing would not be an option for them. Unless they refused the money and did not sign the waiver.

Yeah you're right, I bet they do have to sign some bullshit like that.

If you can survive not getting the chair, and get exhonerated, this isn't too shabby.

Not too shabby? some of these guys were in prison from the time they were 20 years old until their mid-forties - the PRIME of their lives spent sitting in a jail cell, being ordered around, raped and having every freedom taken away from them...

For $1.8 million? Not even close to worth it. VERY shabby IMHO

You wouldn't happen to have a list of ALL the people would you?

Never going to happen. The innocent project is running parallel to the system of appeals. There's no system of appeals in place for convicts that have already been put to death. Obviously the state would never invest time and money into something that would just end up making them look bad and putting the whole justice system into question but I often wonder why the anti-death penalty groups don't start their own innocence project.

There was an interesting movie along these lines that's worth a look (especially because Kevin Spacey pwns):
The Life of David Gale (2003)

Its not nearly enough. Nothing really is, but thats definitely not it. Ask yourself, "would i trade 20 years of my life in prison for 1.8 million dollars"?

If you say yes, you are both broke and fucking retarded.
