Terror strikes India yet again

The U.S. went from mostly a free society to one where people could be locked up for years without charges. The vague range of 'terrorist' activities that the Patriot Act covers could apply to anyone up to someone that owns a map (I read the Patriot Act). It could be argued we are a totalitarian society now.

Turning to government to solve all problems leads to one hellofa intrusive and bloated state that is 100% guaranteed to abuse the power.

Be mad, seek justice. But when your government asks/demands more money and more power -- proceed with caution. Remember, government failed to stop this event from happening, why reward failure with more money and more power?

you joineed in Oct n its Nov n you've made 57 posts. So its not he who is making pointless posts. He never does. Learn to know the members first mate. This aint DP.
Another pointless post. I would never judge people from their post count. I would actually go though the two posts and judge which post is correct. And just because a member has had a good post-making history doesn't mean whatever he posts in future too are good posts.

And go though his post once again think about the relevance of it and then talk. It's not like you have to back up a senior member. Don't take it personally, I hear people here are very Thick-Skin. And it ain't DP, Can never be.

Saw it on the news last night, bad shit.

I agree with Glowleaf. Terrorism, or the fear of it, is used as a control mechanism by governments worldwide.

Trying to stop this shit using military force or increased policing and surveillance is like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound... then going back out to stand in front of traffic.

The only way to deal with it is to address the root causes. What attracts people to groups like Deccan Mujahideen, Al Qaedda, etc? Dealing with the injustices in the Palestinian territories would go a long way in steming the spread of Islamic extremism, but also issues such as poverty and relations between different communities and ethnic groups need to be addressed on both local and global levels.

It's very sad to see that the world is still suffering as a result, at least in part, of the empire building of my country. Britain did a good job at fucking up the world.

Well said. Now read your post AGAIN and stop making pointless posts.

Dang! If they are opening the stock market tomorrow then I need a lonnnggggg session with my anger therapist. My stock futures are all FUCKED! =(

Man, that's terrible news. Be careful all my indian brothers and sisters.

Who the hell are the Deccan Mujahideen? Are they a homegrown outfit or do they stem from Pakistan?

Shit. I would not want to be in Pakistan right now. Between NATO/US on one side and India nuclear power on the other, they're between a rock and hard place.

So does anyone have any idea what these guys want?
Considering they're Pakistani, is it safe to assume what they want is for India to roll over, and maybe lose at cricket for a few years?

All said and done, Indian/Pakistani relations have never been good, and they're consistently swapping fire over the border every other week... But that's usually operations run by the military. The introduction of non-State actors between countries (as opposed to their own internal clashes) is something fairly new.
I can actually see this ending up in an all out war if Pakistan doesn't move quickly and be seen as actually doing something about keeping people inside their own borders, and just blowing up the Indian consulate building in Islamabad.
And before anyone's stupid enough to say "who cares?", I'd like to remind people that India is an absolute production powerhouse when it comes to a lot of basic staples, like underpants, and that both countries have a nuclear arsenal.

And apparently an ex-Neighbours star is/was in one of the hotels that was attacked... So I'll be surprised if the Brits don't use that as an excuse to land some peace keeping forces. They love their Neighbours.

It is a crime not to love Neighbours!

I think the Brits are bound to stick their noses in now that it is rumored that a few of the terrorists are "British Citizens" so they will probably see it as their duty to stick their noses in and send a few troops over for no reason to calm it down.

I hope it does not turn into a full blown war and they can sort out whatever their "beef" is!

Peace is being restored. "War" is nesrly over leaving hundreads dead and a couple hundreads injured. These are official figures. Actual figures wud be even bigger.

The "war against terror" is another well made up tool to make you fear everything, and surrender even more freedoms in patriot acts and london's city cameras and airport checks. "Terrorism" used to be "communism", words which have been brainwashed deep down, making you jump up in anguish every time you hear them, like a Pavlof's dog. I have seen that immediate, instinctive response you have when you listen these words. They have trained you well. At least acknowledge that this is real, and think your own thoughts, not the ones they want you to think.

Of course those deaths are tragic, and they are by no means justified, for whatever sick cause the "terrorists" fight for. But you have to understand that the "terrorists" themselves are created and supplied by your own country. Osama bin laden was trained by the CIA you fucking idiots. They only hunted him when he stopped doing their favors.

That is my thoughts too. If i haven;t been researching into this subject of "terrorism" etc, I would have reacted like the others. A external threat is the best way to have more control over the citizens and win support of illegal wars. I will go on to say that this could even be a false flag as in a incident created to spur support for future events. I tell ya, I expect this year a false flag that is on a similar scale to 911 and the london underground bombing could be used as support to attack Iran. How appropriate to have an war on "Terror". As this war will have no end.

Yes! That is the key point. A war on terror, means a war on threats. There are a million threats in the world. As for possible threats? They never end. Fearing everything is pure, textbook schizophrenia. Instilling that mental disease to the general population means control.
Of course people don't like having a camera record them all day, or allowing the government agents to browse through personal files at will. Show them a possible threat on the other hand, fill them with terror, blow up a few buildings, and they happily surrender freedoms. They even show it in the movies, the newly classic line "Oh yeah? I can tag you as a terrorist and hold you here indefinitely. Now tell me what I want." That is the Patriot act.
