split testing ads on facebook

I just started running ads on Facebook again and it looks like things have changed. Besides the bid prices almost tripling, it looks like they changed the way they deliver ads.

When I set up multiple ads to run against each other to see which one has the highest conversion rate, Facebook will shut off impressions to the ads if they don't get clicks right away and push all impressions to ads that get clicks first. They don't even come close to giving the ads a chance to perform. Even the approval process can fuck up the testing because the ads that get approved a little later won't even run because other ads that have clicks and data will get all the traffic.

This is really shitty, it looks like the only way to split test ads properly is to put each ad in its own campaign. It wasn't like this in the spring time.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yes im inclined to agree with you, the way I've got around this is as soon as you submit all your ads pause them all until all of them have been approved.

What I then do is unpause 20% of them and watch their ctrs, if they are rubbish just pause or delete the ads and then unpause the next 20% of ads you have. Eventually FB will give those other ads impressions.
