All it takes is a C&D to stop, you won't get sued unless you don't comply. There are hundreds of these sites out there, and even so, I don't think the labels give a shit because it's a viral way to promote bands and songs. As long as you aren't downloading the actual file to your computer and selling it, then you're okay.

It was that site... but they are still doing fine.

They are one of the most popular and profitable sites for video codes to this day. The traffic in general sucks, from an advertiser's perspective, but the networks still push it. I think their CPM payout rate is a standard $6 CPM. They do nearly 1M impressions daily, if not more by now. The new owner was lucky as all hell that he didn't lose the site, and the $210k or so he invested. The original owner was an idiot for selling out after only a month or so, he could have made millions overall because he made that site right at the start of the boom, and it peaked about 10 months later.

I actually have a site just like his, and it did pretty well. Made about $12k in one month, but we stopped updating the videos and just left the ads running everywhere. We never got a C&D either, and we used tons of different music video sources. The whole site cost about $800 to make from scratch to launch. A friend of mine is just starting up a niche one for himself, and it looks sweet, but being that most of the CPM advertisers aren't taking on those types of sites anymore, I doubt he will make more than $5k a month from it.
 
I own a new video site(3 months old), its still in beta and alot of the features are being programmed right now. I mainly sell videos through different merchants, and have ads from google ect. So far its cost me around 1k to build.. I don't host any videos.. so i take advantage of youtubes,google & grouper's generous video embedding deal.

I've made around $500 in those 3 months, nothing special.but it only gets around 100 uniques a day. I just don't know if its worth the legal trouble, if i were to get into any. I've been told i have nothing to worry about,but it still makes me alittle paranoid.

Anyway, the site is www.ironvideos.com , i don't know if anyone on here is even into bodybuilding.
