Some things I've learned about Facebook ads...

You made mention of the $100 visa how do i get that from facebook?
I read that signing up here will get you the credit after several click-throughs, but not sure the deal is still live. Can people use the $100 credit after using a regular $50 credit? I know the $100 is meant for local advertising only.

Do you know what you are talking about? Sorry I don't see "subscription billing" listed in section 9 (Prohibited Content) of the advertising guidelines listed here -
Advertising Guidelines | Facebook

You are allowed to run subscription billing as long as you follow the rules listed in section 18 (Subscription Services). Now, Facebook can disapprove your ad based on any reason at their sole discretion but subscription billing isn't prohibited content.

and we all know facebook has all there rules in the guidelines, right? I was told from 2 seperate facebook Ad Reps, "recurring billing is completely banned"

^^ Right... they created "subscription service" guidelines, but if you read the guidelines it basically says they can ban any offer/type of offer they want at "facebooks sole discretion."

So yes, recurring billing is technically allowed, but at the whim of facebook policy and compliance teams. I've cited the "recurring billing" guidelines issued by facebook and the response was "right, but we're just not going to allow this offer anyway."

Don't get your hopes up with facebook.

Really - I don't really care what facebook reps say. The proof is what you see being advertised on facebook everyday. Hmmm, today I see recurring billing offers on facebook in the form of diet offers, resveratrol offers, teeth whiteners, wrinkle creams, stretch mark creams. Yea - recurring billing is banned on facebook - lol.

You aren't supposed to show bikinis on facebook yet everyday I see new half nude pictures advertising by American Laser Centers. How is American Laser Centers allowed to use these photographs and I'm not allowed?

This is most likely a stupid question but if I'm running the whole "200k a year" program offering online marketing for offline businesses, can I sign up one of those $100 credits for every business I make a FB ad for?

Or would I have to do the duplicitous account route?

Yes I do know what I am talking about but I am not so sure about you. Coming from someone that thinks there is only one person approving ads, I doubt you know much about Facebook Ads. Only way you can get subscription billing ads in is through cloaking and that still takes a long time before you can slip one or two ads in. Many of the "prohibited ads" running on Facebook are from ads approved during the Feb - March period.

You can get half nude pictures approved once in awhile when some drunken guy comes along. BTW have you tried submitting a subscription billing ads? 9/10 the disapproving message is prohibited content. Lastly, no one cares if you care about what facebook reps say.

awesome post, thanks!
do you have any tips about how much to bid at the beginning and when do reduce the bid? maybe half of the suggested bid?
I'm also struggling to maintain a high ctr, i had an ad with a ctr of 0.86 after 30 mins it going live but then the impressions keep coming and the ctr was down to 0.03

dating is recurring billing, netflix, gamefly, blockbuster, health insurance, car insurance etc and on and on

For Higher CTR there is no special secret, just trial and error. Targeted ads at targeted groups and tweak like hell. I've experienced changing a picture from one thing to another even if it's pretty much the picture of "the same thing" in my eyes has doubled ctr. So just have to experiment more and more.

For bid price I use two things to determine what I will bid to start, the size of the group the ad is targeting and what I think the ctr(should have a decent idea because 90% of the ads I make are tweaked versions of another) will be. If it's a huge group like 1mill+ I start it at .20, I will get plenty of impressions of facebook testing out my ad with a group this big even with a bid price this low. Once facebook figures out it has a good enough ctr it will keep running my ad and perhaps I can lower my bid more. If your ctr sucks it will quickly slow your impressions quite a bit, time to build a new ad for me at that point because I don't pay more than .2 a click to facebook long term.

If the ad targets a small group like 150k I will start the bid price at the suggested bid amount, it will take to long to gain traction otherwise. After it starts getting impressions and establishing a ctr I lower my bid as fast as possible, I always just keep lowering it to the average CPC and that won't slow down the impressions. After about 5 days I can start forcing it below the avg CPC depending on the CTR of the ad.

Thank you for your tips mike, much appreciated!

It's just that they won't let me try my ideas, created 3 new campaigns and all were disapproved, resubmitted them 5 hours ago and they disapproved all of them again!
