It should be that way but you know quit well it's not. If it were gays would be able to marry the person they want to spend their life with. They would be able to adopt (it's illegal in many states). The boyscouts wouldn't be able to bar people based on sexual orientation. Partners could collect SS and deathbenifts, Military and Sexual orientation would not have anything to do with each other...

I feel like the child should have a choice when it comes to this. The government shouldn't force a child into a situation with two gay parents if the child doesn't want to go.

If you're going to risk your life in war I think you should be afforded the respect of not serving with gays if you don't want to.
Think about it, you're in war killing people and people trying to kill you and on top of all that you also have in the back of your mind about whether or not twinkle toes is watching you shower or take a fucking piss.
Serving with gays should be opt-in or opt-out, doesn't really matter which but there should definitely be an option.
The other shit you mentioned I don't care about one way or another.
