Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care -- admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada's single-payer system.

"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. "And I think now, isn't that ironic?"

The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada's health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and 'death-panel'-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska.

Republican state Sen. Roy Ashburn said Monday he is gay, ending days of speculation that began after his arrest last week for investigation of driving under the influence.

Ashburn, who consistently voted against gay rights measures during his 14 years in the state Legislature, came out in an interview with KERN radio in Bakersfield, the area he represents.
Ashburn has voted against a number of gay rights measures, including efforts to expand anti-discrimination laws and recognize out-of-state gay marriages. Last year, he opposed a bill to establish a day of recognition to honor slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk.

All politicians are hypocrites. But here's a preemptive fuck you Hellblazer for when you come in here and call me a fucking moron (since that seems to be your standard line for anyone that thinks differently than you). For all the liberal democrat smearing you post, I thought I'd post something fair and balanced just for you.

I consider myself a conservative, at least economically.

Palin is an idiot and would probably be worse than Bush, if elected to anything national.

Roy Ashburn is a state senator. Nobody outside his little geographical area knows who he is, or would have if it hadn't have been for his outing. As he has 4 daughters, I'd guess he's more bi than gay.

As for his anti-gay voting, so what? Maybe he doesn't feel gays need special rights above and beyond those of the average non-gay citizen?

There have been several vocal anti-gay conservatives, who have been outed.

Ashburn joins other Republicans who were consistently anti-gay, but their personal lives showed something different.
Former U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, was arrested for tapping an undercover cop's foot in a men's bathroom at an airport, which is said to be a special code for soliciting sex and former Congressman Mark Foley, R-FL, sent racy texts and emails to teenage boys in the Congressional page program.

I find it hypocritical.

Shit like this really pisses me off. If your going to be a close minded fuck that's your choice, but at least walk the walk. This man won't have a friend in the world now.

Then he should have said I'm gay but I don't believe that we should be treated equally. Stupid. But at least it's real.

Edit: wait, I just realized what you said. Who said above and beyond? how bout just equal?

There are hypocrites from both parties. Take a look at gore and his non-existent "green" lifestyle he so strongly has promoted.

Of course. But then you can almost find hypocrisy wherever you look, nowadays.

For example - Warren Buffett is a businessman who has made billions of dollars but who wants to modify the playing field so that others can't do what he did - his positions on the inheritance tax are ridiculously biased

But just because someone falls into a particular category of person (gay, black, white, male, female, etc) doesn't mean they have to toe the party line on something. He may see himself more as a citizen than as a homosexual. In that case, he wouldn't be hypocritical at all.

Maybe he didn't really want to be seen as gay? Maybe it wasn't the way he defined himself?

As for the equality angle - any homosexual has the same rights as the rest of us, which is as it should be. But for someone to enjoy special protections (and they are special - otherwise why would they have to be defined?) simply because they're a man but really, really like to suck cock, or have someone else's cock jammed hard up their ass, that seems unnecessary to me. Leave your sexuality out of it.

But then I'm a big proponent of freedom of association. I don't think businesses should be penalized for not serving blacks, whites, gays, women, etc. I think the market should penalize those businesses.

The thing about Palin is as stupid as they come. If you read more into it, her parents brought her to the doctor when she was six years old, and it just so happened to be that their nearest doctor was in a Canadian town. Alaska, after all, is largely barren wilderness.

So because of one trip to the doctor = LIBERAL HYSTERIA OMGOMGOGM PALIN!!!

It should be that way but you know quit well it's not. If it were gays would be able to marry the person they want to spend their life with. They would be able to adopt (it's illegal in many states). The boyscouts wouldn't be able to bar people based on sexual orientation. Partners could collect SS and deathbenifts, Military and Sexual orientation would not have anything to do with each other...

These issues will eventually turn out to be non-issues as society rolls along and evolves and gets more and more permissive.

Gays should have the same rights everyone else does. Being gay is no different than being a furry, or someone who likes to have sex with balloons.

Gays should have the right to free speech, the right to vote, the right to assemble. They should be able to be free from wrongful prosecution and self-incrimination. They should have the right to property.

The various incentives states have to "reward" marriage are designed to perpetuate the state by replenishing citizens. Gay marriage should be a non-issue because "marriage" is just a contract. If you disagree with that, try getting divorced. Anyone should be able to marry anyone, as long as that person is eligible to be a citizen (ie - no animals or trees, or boots).

Boyscouts should be able to bar anyone they want from the organization that they want. For whatever reason. Freedom of association. If someone wanted to start an org for gay scouts, they should be able to do that. But you should not have the right to force yourself into someone else's association.

The military is not a social experiment and follows it's own set of rules. Uniform code of military justice. While some of the best soldiers in the world are gay, you are not a gay soldier. You are a soldier. People who identity more with being gay than being a soldier need to go. People who are scared of gays or who feel threatened by gays also need to go.

@jdomaha

yes i agree with you. very well explained. I think everyone should have equal rights afterall all r humanbeings.

It should be that way but you know quit well it's not.

You also know perfectly well gays aren't just like straight people, or gaydar wouldn't work.

There are lots of groups that are subject to some amount of discrimination, and gays are just the latest tyo suirm out from under the thumb of government. Blacks had to win the end of slavery, the end of segregation, and their civil rights. It took about a century. Gays are stomping around complaining about what they ought to have after what, a dozen years or so of reasonable equality? It's been less than fifty years since Stonewall. Give it time. Yes, you deserve these rights, and you'll get them. You just have to be patient, and the more you bitch and whinge about it, the longer it will take.

And WTF are you guys doing here, writing a rap song?

No they shouldn't!

Would you want to grow up with two homosexual parents?????

I sure as hell wouldn't.

You far left liberals are destroying this country. Sure, let gays do what they want...marry... whatever.... but that's just selfish to do to kids.

Wake up.

You're a fucking moron. Infringing upon the freedom of others based upon your own beliefs is exactly what is wrong with the far left today. Personal liberty is personal liberty....no exceptions. Whackjob religious right bullshit, e.g. your statement above, is just as bad as the collectivist policies that conservatives are supposedly fighting against right now.

you know, I can't stand Palin, but there's two problems here.

1. She was 6 years old and younger when she was taken there. She had no choice in the matter. When you were 6 did you pick your own hospitals?

2. Yukon Territory (which is where they were taken) didn't have single-payer until 1972. She was born in 1964, and therefore 6 in 1970 - before the system was in place.
