IMo the worst part about crashes is loosing track of what you had opened.
These 3 extensions won't stop Firefox from crashing but they do save your tabs and opened windows

Session Saver, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/436/
Session Manager, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2324/
Tab Mix Plus, https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1122/

The one I use myself is session manager. I tried Tab Mix Plus but it did way more than I needed. And from what I've heard, Session Saver has memory leaks so I wouldnt recommend it.

Crash Recovery feature is part of Firefox 2, so this is a temporary fix.

Session saver is great but be aware that it is going to use up extra resources and if you have a lot of tabs open, I find it takes forever for FF to close.

I have 1GB of RAM. FF is a resource hog though, especially when you start installing multiple extensions.
tell me about it, I have 2gb of ram and I still notice if Firefox is getting big.
My personal record for pushing Firefox' ram usage is 920mb.

Thanks for the tip. Which is best? Anyone have any experience with these options?

IE never crashes on me :P .
FF never crashes on me :P .

Back in my IE days, though, I didn't have tabs. Didn't have extensions. I was so friggen limited.

Without the tabs I'd only have a few pages open. Now I often have 40-100.

I love tags; they are the reason I don't use IE anymore. And apart from last night when FF crashed all the time, FF is fairly reliable.

Ok, what are tags? Is that just what you are calling tabbed browsing or am I missing out on a feature?

Only problem I've ever had with FF was when I would go to start it nothing would happen.

It would still start on the task screen though... so I'd have to close it and keep trying to open it until it worked.

Then FF released a new version... installed it, works like a charm now.
