Barman, this is actually a good thing considering corporations have spent billions, and i mean billions promoting the .com tld. Values of .com wont go away overnight.
I quote frank schilling "what the new tlds .sex .money or .xxx or .security(which will be the most valuable of the group) is just marginalize .info, .biz .tv. The real cream of the crop is .com. That is where the gravy is at stay there.
I honestly think .info has done a pretty damn good fucking job at staying around, really .

But what will happen to the value of my .mobi portfolio? :D
I honestly don't think many people are going to go out of their way for a personalised TLD.
The larger companies that have multiple campaigns and can't get the .com or some such are likely to go for it.
Likewise, I can see the MPAA getting .movie up & running... after all, how many something-the-movie.com domains have you seen lately?
Then again, I'm surprised by how few .TVs have been taken by the owners of the shows. They're usually taken up by domainers that then run some PPC or maybe a fan site.

The WSJ today said ICANN is expecting to price these between $100k and $500k.

Goverment aint gonna do jack shit about domaining. :) .. Its hard as fuck to police, parking companies make money, google makes money (alof of it) clueless newbies always feed the monster (adwords). The cycle of life.

Who cares if its avail or not.. look how long its taken the mass consumers and general population to type in .com or .net! Hell, there are still tens of millions of people who can't even grasp that concept and thats why the typein traffic industry is still around!!

So what.. now you have to tell them to type in .ibm or .verizon?! Yeahhhh goodluck with that one buddy.

.mobi is crap. Seriously now. The only people who are making any cash off of it is the wholesale and aftermarket guys. No one else gives a fuck.

In terms of typing in .mobi from your phone, I can't even count 5 people I know outside of our industries that use it, hell, even in our industry I can't count 10 people! Plus, with the whole iphone sensation and how their browser works, it kinda kills this whole .mobi concept.

But you do have to give some major credit to the crew behind the .mobi because they have made so much fucking cash convincing people that .mobi was going to be huge. Well, its been well over the time they said it would explode, and I haven't see a damn thing yet.

Guys wont listen Aojon, domains are still cheap as fuck.

One of my friends told me "nick i dont get digital money". I had a big fucking smile on my face, fantastic dont get digital money. Its the same fucking thing but as far as the general population and even a whole shitload of im marketers dont get "digital money and the whole typein traffic fiasco" lol -- domains will always be cheap as fuck.
Thank god for the slow economy, domainers will start letting go of domains they have been holding onto. Trust me theres this domain from acquirethisname.com that i have been in talks with and was suprised at the asking price. 40k for a domain that would be worth 250k easily with just a few months of development.

When .mobi was first announced I laughed, I didn't think anyone would fall for that shit but a lot of "domainers" sure wasted a shitload of money speculating.

I was flipping through the channels a while back and that annoying fuck Shepard Smith on Fox gave out their (I assume) mobile address as "sitename".com then immediately began stammering and corrected himself and gave it as "sitename".mobi (producer must have been screaming in his earpiece)

He even commented on the wierd extension, said he'd never heard of it, something like "Really? ... it's .mobi?".

.mobi = colossal fail
