The writer seems to have a good general understanding of the business, but it was very odd seeing an affiliate network described as a "temp agency" with a "job board."

The majority of the article presented AM as a cash-rich, shady underside of the Internet, holding little value or ethics. Your thoughts?

The Anatomy of a Web Advertising Scam

That article has definitely confirmed my suspicions about the whole diet blog/fake blog type of advertising. I know it's worked in the past, for me and others, but after seeing some of the buzz last year about how consumers were getting rebilled like crazy from acai, I knew it was going to leach on to the other 3.95 s/h products that promise pure BS. I've stopped promoting some of this stuff, at least in the USA. But for right now I feel like I'm on both sides of the fence. The article really aims at putting a knife into affiliates by comparing them to "scum".

But then again it's all part of the circle. I love it how the author points out these scams but then allows advertising between paragraphs.

The last page is absolute hilarity.

This piece owes a large bit of thanks to Nickycakes.com, which has a vulgar but indispensible guide to affiliate advertising. Also, the Waffles at Noon blog is ace at keeping track of all the various scams and landing pages. E-mail me if you’ve seen this kind of multilevel marketing scam for other products than those mentioned.

TEH IRONING IS KILLING ME

Just don’t call it the circle of life—it’s more like a circle of lies.

Guy read whole cakes affiliate guide, and instead of using what he learned he goes back to that shitty site to write a shitty article to "inform poor stupid overweight people" and become their superhero. I guess he thinks of himself as Oprah.

"folks on the Internet claim to bring in more than $10,000 a month once they get the hang of being an affiliate."

they don't even know......
